Agency title, should be free everywhere (so feel free to help report the lower prices to amazon, so it drops there).

Also free @ Sony (available to Canadians). ETA: Different link for US persons, since apparently HC's been splitting its catalogue and putting stuff out as "HarperCollins Canada" now.
I'm starting to think we need abbreviations for some of the longer store names so they'll fit in the title when we get these Agency/multi-venue freebies. BOBoard, perhaps? Last edited by ATDrake; 12-16-2011 at 05:08 PM. Reason: Linkage for our neighbours to the south. |

I saw koland use bob up above. Maybe a combination of the two? BoBoard? I have been putting iBooks in the title. Should I use iTunes instead? |

It's the same length, so either way works and I'm pretty sure people understand where to get them regardless.
Some other suggestions (and maybe we should have a Sticky FAQ for the inevitable Xmas newbies* so they know which stores carry formats compatible with their shiny gift/sale readers and what "DRM-free" and "MultiFormat" mean and that the freebies tend to expire pretty quickly so they shouldn't wait to grab them):
* Apparently the most readers the forum ever got online at the same time was on Christmas day last year. |

OTOH - the formats section of the title USED to tell us what format. Now it's a mess of which storea (which isn't all that useful - an EPUB format can cause 4-6 stores to be listed). I'd vote to go back to listing formats only: Kindle nook iBooks EPUB DRM-Free With both EPUB and PDF the ADE-DRM'd versions. |

The limitation of formats vs stores is that some stores are automatically geo-restricted. Clued-in people know that Sony at present doesn't serve anyone outside the US/Canada (and in the future, the UK) unless they lie about their address.
Also, Christian Book has online reading and occasional non-DRM ePubs, so in order to best represent the books, one would have to check the individual listings, which could get tedious. (Not to mention the name provides a content warning for those who want to auto-skip religious stuff). And then there's places like All Romance, where there's a bunch of formats that readers can pick from, but only one at a time. Not to mention people may specifically want a version which autodownloads/syncs with their reader, from the store said reader may be attached to, and it would be nice to let them know that X is finally also available at Sony/Kobo. A store-added update to the thread title provides exactly that info without their having to check back to see if that comment someone made was about a new store, or just unreadably bad formatting. |

I only look for those stores I purchase from, so a little help about which to put in the title updates would be a help. I will do my best to get it right.
Maybe, an in-thread note to me on what to put in the title update? [add ePub] or the title should be [Sony/Kindle/ePub/multi-format] etc.. |

Sure, I could do that.
Probably the most important stores to note because of the format/syncing/geo-restriction issue would be: Kindle, Nook, Sony, Kobo, iBooks Possibly also Christian Books since they often freebie worldwide stuff which is only available to US/Canada at Sony and they've the online reading option as well, and may well end up being the only viable ADE-ePub option for international folks since Tyndale House and Baker have stopped sending freebies to Kobo. After that, it's really up to the individual reader scanning the thread title to decide what's most important to them: knowing what format the books are available in (DRM-free, MultiFormat) or whether the book is at a store for which they already have an account or they'll have to make a new one or if the store won't officially sell to their region. You could probably stick additional obscure stores as [Kindle/Nook/Sony/+2 ePub/+1 PDF] or whatever. Personally, I'd prefer seeing upfront what's been made available where, rather than what formats it's available in, because generally you already know that from knowing which store sells what. Last edited by ATDrake; 12-17-2011 at 02:20 AM. Reason: Not all ePub DRM is ADE, although I'm sure they'd have to love to have that fee-paying market monopoly. |

Yep I've noticed that some Friday Freebies don't even last the day and others are around for a few days, doesn't seem to be free at Kobo anymore either but is still available at Books on Board and the Sony store
