The province of Van, on the border with Iran, appeared to be particularly badly hit with officials warning of damage to buildings and infrastructure.

Unfortunately, the death toll is already known to be 45 and rising. It is not, however, the anticipated quake near Istanbul that could well be devastating when it strikes in the next few years.

I am told this could be the forerunner of something that may ripple onto other faults in the area ....
