I remember when . . . .

I remember when a Choo-Choo bar was threepence and it would last all the way from the swimming baths until I got home.

I remember when the baker delivered bread in an old English van and didn't care that he got ambushed by all the kids for freebees and gave us a warm tank loaf to eat and laughed while we enjoyed it.

I remember that we could play in the middle of the road and someone would yell "car" and we would step aside until it had passed and resume our cricket game.

I remember when you could catch tadpoles on the way home from school any day you liked.

I remember the tree house with the big rope swing that swung over those tadpoles which was removed when that strange kid let go of the rope and broke his leg.

I remember my first publication..... So and so was a bitch.... With a spray paint can behind the school. (got caught).

What do you remember?

I remember walking, riding my bicycle or taking the bus to activities instead of having someone drive me.

I remember when 1 SEK (15 US cents) was enough for a bag of candies, and we stood there pointing "one of those, one of those... no make that two..." while the ever patient store person filled our little candy bag.

I remember when sodas was treat and one bottle had to be shared between two siblings. One poured the glasses, the other had the choice. Rarely have I seen more equally filled glasses since!

I remember when there were no remote controls and you actually had to lift your *** to change anything on the TV. Since there was only one channel for quite some time there wasn't too much running back and forth though...

I remember a time before cell phones. And even before wireless landline phones. You actually had to be standing/sitting in the hallway where the phone was to talk!

I remember lots of things that I have forgotten!

I'm sure the Prince of Whales remembers those days as well. When cordless phones where on the same frequency as CB radio pirates.

I remember the starry nights in our back yard. Before one had to drive two hours away from the city's light pollution.

I remember when NOK 10 (~US$ 1,85) was enough to cover the return bus ride, the cinema and candy for the movie.

I remember when we could climb trees (and fall down) without having to have EU-approved soft sand under every place where children happend to play.

I remember when children were out playing the whole day, without any cell-phone and parents only vaguely had an idea where their offspring were. And this was ok so long as we came home for evening meal and bedtime.

I remember when going on holiday meant driving by (a very small) car around in Scandinavia and sleeping in a cotton "house tent". And not by aeroplane halfway around the globe and live in a 5-star hotel.

I remember when only the main roads were tarmac.

I remember the milk ramps and the haystacks in "the countryside".

I remember when only the richest neighbours had a motorised lawn mower.

I remember when only the filthy richest neighbours had a snow thrower.

And, I remember most of the above posters statements as well

I remember my parents coming home from garage sales with comic digests (Peanuts, Archie, Garfield, Family Circus, Dennis the Menace, Andy Capp)

I remember when the best thing in life was Saturday morning cartoons (Smurfs, Scooby Doo, DC Superfriends, Spiderman, Flintstones, Looney Toons)

I remember watching music videos when they first became popular (Micheal Jackson, Madonna, Duran Duran, Eurythmics, Men at Work, Cyndi Lauper )

I remember seeing Prince Charles and Lady Di on their Canadian Royal Visit.

I remember being allowed to stay up late to watch bad horror movies about Dracula, Frankenstein, The Mummy, Werewolves, The Invisible Man, and the occasional alien invasion.

I remember doing many stupid and dangerous things that I sincerely hope my kids will never do.

I remember being excited about watching new episodes of Three's Company, Happy Days, Laverne & Shirley, Taxi, and a new show called Cheers.

I remember when it was almost acceptable for husbands and fathers to come home from work six hours late without notice, reeking of alcohol and trying hard to explain what happened to the week's wages.

I remember the first time I saw a television set, a huge wooden box with a little round green on black screen in the middle.

I remember family gatherings around the piano, and everyone singing off key.

I remember opening beer and pop bottles with a “church key”

I remember (being a) gas station attendants who would not only pump your gas, but wash your windows and check you oil; and not expect a tip.

I remember my mother always used to put $3 of gasoline in the car - and it would buy almost 8 gallons.

I remember when soda pop came in glass bottles that you had to return to the store (for 0.05 or 0.10 per bottle). I remember a section of the grocery store that was just stacked up with those returned bottles (ewwww - bug central!)

I remember taking my brother's wagon door-to-door to our neighbors asking if they had any bottles they didn't want - and we'd make out like bandits! (Can you actually imagine going door-to-door today, basically asking your neighbors to give you money?!)

I remember telephones with rotary dials and when it cost more to have a phone with touch-tone (versus analog?) dialing.

I remember going barefoot in the Smithsonian Institute in Washington DC with my hillbilly relatives - and not realizing that was a bad thing to do! (And I have pictures to prove it).

I remember when Hollywood movies would carry themselves on suspense and a strong story, instead of just sex and gratuitous action scenes.

I remember when everyone said virtual reality was the future.

I remember Windows without a start menu.
