Is this the Nook Classic or Nook Simple Touch? If it's the Nook Classic I bet they are making room for the Nook Simple Touch.

Yeah, those sound like the old models--I'm surprised they still have them at all.

Barnes and Noble did that, too. You'll notice they then brought out the new STR.

95% of kindle owners are most likely unaware of any "lock-in" or the mobi-vs-epub debate. And why would they even care, they can get all the same books at the same prices (agency) non agency books are usually cheaper at amazon and they often have titles not available elsewhere. The small percentage of people who would be affected by any vendor lock-in probably also know about removing DRM and converting. It is really a non-issue that you love to harp on. |

I also prefer more "open" devices, but JSwolf is just a tad bit overzealous even for me. |

Well, discontinued or not, the prices for the classic Nook was dropped by Barnes and Noble to 119 (WiFi) and 169 (WiFi+3G) when the Touch was released. So it's not like WalMart is offering a particularly good deal.
BN offer free shipping as well, and also has a few covers left as sale price. |
