Text talk
OK, What's your opinion on people using text when typing not only on their phones but on the computer? It's like short hand is being invented all over again but in a way that everybody learns it bit by bit. I personally like some of them like BTW g2g TTYL LMAO but really when your typing, is l8tr faster that later? soon we will be talking in text language, no more English for me

I thought it was just me who hates it. I blame it on boy bands. Remember 'Nsynch? Then along came Z replacing S. It spiraled downhill with BFF, which is always a bald-faced lie. Now there is a whole language of random alphabets to which i am clueless.
Im feeling old. You kids wipe your feet and come get some Koolaid. |

Not ever. My daughter makes fun of me because I use commas and apostrophes in texts.

well I use the old-school abbrevs like IMHO AFAIK (and of course RTFM and STFW when needed) as well as the old smileys) but that's because I was already doing it before every social network kiddo started to. I still use IRC and there they are common lingo and not a proof of some kind of wannabe kewlness.
the so-called 1337 sp33ch OTOH is a completely different thing and my eyes bleed when I read that. |

al m frndz typ lik dis, and I don't like it because it takes me much longer to read.
I understand the need for it when using a cell phone that doesn't have a keyboard, because it is faster (I still don't use it, but I can see why one would), but on any sort of keyboard device there's no excuse. :P |

I quite enjoy it at times, especially in places where it is the native language (the intarwebs, texting, perhaps Twitter). The only place I cannot (and do not) tolerate it is in emails. People are unconscionably sloppy when it comes to emails (old folks and young alike, though for different reasons) and it just drives me nuts. Don't they teach letter-writing in school anymore? And do people forget it when they get to a certain age?
For some reason, any mention of texting as a controversial topic reminds me of this strange meme that's been floating around for a while: I swear, the next person who addresses me as "u" in an email gets the above treatment . Quote:

i was hoping availability of qwerty keyboards on phones would put an end to it.
i guess some people just don't want to be understood. |

Texting "you" costs the same as texting "u".
i don't think plans have anything to do with it. Last edited by Michael McLovin; 03-06-2011 at 04:54 AM. |
