Way to put Calibre comments as notes on reader?
Sorry if this has been answered before; I searched and didn't find anything.
I was wondering if there was a way to put the comments I have on a book in Calibre as maybe a note on the book when it goes on my Sony? What I'm trying to do is have what would be the back of the book, so I know what my books are about. I've gone through and have all this information in the comments in Calibre. I know I can convert them to epubs and add the metadata as a page (thanks to you lovely people letting me know that last year), but if it's still got DRM it does me no good, and some other ones end up not so pretty as an epub. So I was kind of hoping, now that I have a shiny new 350 and it has that nice notes feature, that maybe there was an easy way to make the comments as a note on a book. Or even a not so easy way - I don't mind having to copy from the comments and paste to where it needs to be for each inidividual book if I have to. (Well, I'd rather not have to, but I don't mind doing it this one time to make my library perfect.) Is there a way to look at notes I have on a book in calibre? (And if so, how?) Thanks! |

Look for the "insert metadata as jacket page" option in the conversion settings.

Right, I've got that. I'm talking about using the notes feature on the Reader to maybe add it, since I can't convert DRM books.
Is there a way to add it without converting the books? |

@MidknytOwl,
You could use Calibre's Catalog feature to create a very nice, epub list of all your books (DRM'd or otherwise) which you could keep on your reader. It contains the metadata Comments for each book. Not to mention listing your books by Author and/or Title and/or Series and/or Genre and/or DateAdded. If you haven't used it before, it's on the drop-down menu of the ConvertBooks menu item. |

I just tried this, but I'm not getting the metadata on my Nook Color. I don't really care about the book jacket, just the notes of what the book is about. Am I misunderstanding something?

the option means that you will have a page near the start of your books containing the metadata.

I'm converting for Kindle.
I don't see a "jacket option" but do see "metadata at start of book" are these the same things or is there some field I've overlooked? |

Yes, that's the option (I think of it a jacket in my head and that's what t's called in the code)

The book jacket should be the first page after the cover inside the converted epub.
Edit:Too slow as usual! |

Ah, that explains it - somehow I thought it would be on the cover instead of the cover picture. I just found that I do have the meta data on the second page of the book. Nice!

Sorry to add to this old thread, but I just discovered it today, and have to say how delighted I am to discover the well-hidden (to me) feature of "Insert metadata as page at start of book". Now I can edit the Comments metadata to add my own notes to the existing synopsis for any book, and then convert the book with the "jacket" (as Kovid calls it) option turned on. Then once I send the book to my Kindle, I have this very nicely formatted informative "jacket" right after the cover page. And of course I can see the edited Comments on my PC as well. What a boon to my aging memory! :-)
I would like to see this option be more visible as I suspect many readers could make good use of it. Last edited by dmcritchie; 01-09-2017 at 11:04 PM. |
