Clara BW Can't enable sideloaded mode, it keeps reverting

I have a brand new Kobo Clara BW ereader. I don't want to use WiFi to set it up, so I tried enabling the sideloaded mode by connecting it to my PC and editing the ereader.conf file, as many others have done before. After disconnecting the USB-C cable from my PC, I try setting up the device again. However, it still asks me for the WiFi code. Subsequently, I reconnect the ereader to my PC to see what went wrong. I notice that the sideloaded mode is now reverted to "false" for no reason.

What should I do to fix this?

What do you mean "setting up the device again"? After you edit the configuration file, you need to safely eject and then hold the power button to turn the device off and on again. When you turn it on, it will take you directly to My Books, and there won't be a setup screen at all.

Thanks for the help! Managed to boot into My Books. The problem was I didn't restart the device directly after unplugging it.
