"books with the same titles as the following already exist in calibre"

Hi, I'm starting with a fresh Calibre install. I'm adding a set of PDF and EPUB files to the library that I previously checked has no duplicates but still at the end of the adding process I get the message "books with the same titles as the following already exist in calibre". So I delete the library, reset Calibre and try again, and same message again. Is this a Calibre bug? Thanks

Perhaps the ebooks you are importing have duplicate titles in the metadata? You might want to allow them to be added anyways and then check to see what identical titles exist (Find Duplicates plugin recommended). The add function only checks the title so you could have books by different authors with the same title or an ePub and PDF version of the same ebook.

Anyone know if there is a tweak to make Calibre check the title AND the author? I've looked and can't find one. This is a pet peeve of mine, as it should be obvious that title matches are NOT duplicates if they are written by different authors. This happens more often than you'd think.

If no tweak, maybe Kovid would consider an enhancement?

Another reason to use an 'intake' Library.

Look at Preferences: Adding Books: Adding Actions (a tab).
Copy to Library can look at 3 fields, then use your rule setting.

Thanks much! This will save me time, as I add the same books to libraries on different computers, so I can point them all to the same network folder.

You don't want that. The reason being is that I've seen the same book with the same title but different author. By different author it's backwards from the other copy or it's a dual-author book with both authors listed in one and only one author in another.

So you could end up with the same book multiple times.
