Unhappy Kobo Glo HD Power Button Not Sleeping, Red LED Stays On

Hi everyone,

I'm having some trouble with my old Kobo Glo HD and was hoping someone might have some advice.

The issue is with the power button — I can no longer use it to put the device into sleep mode or wake it up. Short presses don't seem to have any effect. However, long presses (around 15 seconds) still successfully power the device off or on.

Additionally, I've noticed that the red LED/light remains constantly on while the Kobo is awake. From what I remember, it should only light up briefly during boot or wake-up, not stay on during regular use.

I have already performed a factory reset, which completed successfully, but unfortunately, the issue remains.

For context:
  1. The power button still feels normal (has a physical click).
  2. No recent drops or water exposure.
  3. Running firmware version 4.34.20097.
  4. The device is detected by a PC when connected via USB.

My suspicion is that the button itself may be faulty (if anyone has a part number or a link to a suitable replacement, that would be appreciated), or possibly that some component on the board has failed (though everything else seems to work fine, which is a bit puzzling).

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Perhaps a bit of a long shot but if you look at the Kobo eReader.conf file in the /.kobo/Kobo directory, under the [FeatureSettings] header, do you have Screenshots=true set? That would give pretty much the power button behaviour you are mentioning since the power button is being used for screenshots. You can work around this but using NickelMenu to toggle screenshots on when you want to take one and then toggling back to off after taking the screenshot.

Code:
[FeatureSettings]
ExcludeSyncFolders=(\\.(?!kobo|adobe).+|([^.][^/]*/)+\\..+)|(screensaver_old)
IgnoreCaptivePortal=false
InvertScreen=false
Screenshots=true

Hi DNSB,

Unfortunately, I do not have that entry in my `Kobo eReader.conf` file.

I had NickelMenu and KOReader installed before performing the factory reset, but I don't recall ever enabling screenshots manually.

Thanks for the suggestion though.

Also the Kobo eReader.conf:
