In E Ink Gallery 3, the black and white update time had been improved to 350 milliseconds (ms), the fastest color color mode is 500 ms, standard color mode is 750-1000 ms and best color is achieved at 1500 ms.
Given that 1 second is 1000 ms, this may actually be pretty good. Last edited by JSWolf; 09-05-2024 at 08:49 AM. |

I agree, it's not as fast as Kaleido, but for a device that is mostly a note-taking device, that's alright. Also, there was a mention that reaction time for the stylus is like 12ms, which is outstanding.

This video shows the screen in use and it's quite fast.

Looking at the video in post #5, it looks like page turns are ~2 seconds?

Remarkable will also read ePub format ebooks but the one time I played with the Remarkable 2 and ePub, it's CSS handling had very iffy. The owner was not certain if it was actually rendering the ePub or if it was converted to PDF at some point. I'm attaching two images from a Reddit post showing Books vs. Remarkable for ePub renderering. And yes, Remarkable seems to prefer left justified even when the CSS specifies text-align: justify.

As far as I can tell from Remarkable's web page and some discussions elsewhere, the current Remarkable firmware renders ePub directly without the conversion to PDF that the original Remarkable firmware required. OTOH, I don't own a Remarkable and have exactly one acquaintance who does so have not tested this hands on. That the rendering is not very good is a different issue.

It seems unlikely that Remarkable had time to use this controller, but this gives us some hope to see better Gallery 3 based devices. Also, E Ink's 2023 report says: Quote:

That would be nice if Kobo created an 8" Reader with the new Gallery 3. That's one I might buy as it should not be so dark and the colors will be much better and no speckles.
