Stop Kindle for PC from Auto-Updating
Can you stop Kindle for PC from Auto-Updating? I only want to update the program when I'm ready to do so.
Thank you. |

There used to be methods to keep K4PC from updating but I vaguely remember none of them now work. I take it that you removed the checkmark from Tools => Options => General => Automatically install updates when they are available without asking me?

The storage/updates folder hack is the last I knew that worked. You need to install K4PC with network disabled and then run the hack. Last edited by ratinox; 08-03-2024 at 08:31 PM. |

Thank you, DNSB, I had planned on making sure the update automatic update was turned off but it never hurts to have a reminder to do it.
Thank you, ratinox, That is the file I remember using. I honestly don't remember making sure the network was disabled when running the hack but I'll definitely do that. Does the .bat file need to be in the Kindle "updates" folder for it to be run and for it to work?? |

Haven't been here for 5 years. - My PC was replaced and I couldn't get amazon to stop updating. Batch file worked great! Thanks!

You will need to download and run the batch file attached to the message. It will create a file called updates in the same directory where Amazon's autoupdate will try to create a directory called updates. I've attached a version with some commenting to this message.

Is there a risk that my Amazon user account could be banned due to the following terms? >Kindle Store Terms of Use > ............ >2. Use of Kindle Software > Permitted Devices. You may use Kindle Software only on Supported Devices. |

I've never heard of anyone being banned for removing the DRM.

Not every T&C is legally enforceable.
But Amazon does terminate accounts for "too many physical returns"*, which unreasonably removes access to "Cloud Library", Send to Kindle, makes Scribe crippled, and ends your KDP if you have it. [* not defined anywhere] |
