Lighting a candle for my co-grandmother-in-law. She passed unexpectedly very shortly after her metastasized cancer was discovered. One of the nicest people I've met and we will miss her.

Lighting a virtual candle for my friend Luann Meier who passed away unexpectedly on Monday. Her birthday would have been January 3rd.

Today I'm remembering Sir Roy Calne, my mother-in-law's cousin, who died last night, aged 93.
He was an exceptional surgeon, and his work on transplantation lead to tens of thousands of lives being saved. But perhaps more importantly personally, he was a very good man, with time for wider family as well as his own. I met him a couple of times at family events, and once stayed at his house when my wife was admitted to hospital in Cambridge unexpectedly. Others are carrying on his work, but his family will, of course, always miss him. |

Lighting a candle for Aunt Lorraine, my husband's aunt. We will travel later this week to attend her funeral. 2 of our grown kids will also drive the 3.5 hours to where she lived because they loved visiting her when they were young.
Lorraine was 88, and just a terrific lady. Strong, welcoming to anyone, nothing phased her, not 3 different battles with cancer, losing her husband a few years ago, nothing. This last year was such a challenge for her as she lost her independence due to cancer and many small strokes. We had a nice visit with her in March. The family is really going to miss her, she was truly the center of a large extended family. It's so hard to see our older generation pass away. |

Aunt Lorraine obviously had a well-lived life and as much as she'll be missed, I'm sure that's a comfort to everyone who loved her. I'm sorry for your loss.
