One local farmer is now raising featherless chickens. Still ugly critters but evidently cheaper to process. Contrary to some rumours, they are not genetically modified by meddling with their DNA. They were created by breeding from ancestors that had featherless necks (hmmm... vulture chickens?).

Some cats are bald - Canadian sphynx is one breed. One does wonder how these bald creatures come about - I would have thought more fur and feather would be needed in inland Canada where it does get cold. Though BC is more coastal so it might be advantageous to have less insulation there. I hope the chicken comes along and shares thoughts….
