Anne Rice has passed away at age 80
She is not an author I have read, but there is no disputing the influence she had.

Although she is more famous for the vampire books and the witch books, I hope people don't forget Cry to Heaven. That was a historical novel (set in Italy) about the castrati. I thought it was originally published under the Anne Rampling name, but Wikipedia tells me it was published as an Anne Rice book instead.
Anyway... Cry to Heaven was certainly a revelation to my teenage self... |

I never read any of her stuff. My wife and I listened to an audiobook of hers someone gave us on a long road trip. It was pretty good. RIP

The first 3 books in the Vampire series are incredible. It's been about 20 years since I read them, so I may go back and re-read those first three.

Definitely a well known name of my youth's generation. I had no idea she was 80.
