If you are interested in public domain books, gutenberg.org has lots.

Many paid stores have some free books. You can often find these by searching for a category you like, then sort by price low to high.

Also go to the Deals and Resources page here for low-cost and free books. Depending on your device you may find separate sites that search Amazon for you. If you have a Kindle, or the Kindle App, see freereadfeed.

Standard Ebooks takes public-domain books from Project Gutenberg and makes them a bit nicer to read (though there's been some debate on how good the underlying code is).

standardebooks.org take books from Gutenberg, format them nicely, and maintain them by fixing errors.

ereaderiq.com allows you to track Amazon.com ebooks and get alerts when there are price drops.

And they use code that's way way too complicated for the eBooks they have. There is no reason at all to use ePub 3.2 code when simple ePub 2/3 code would work better. We already know their eBooks have problems with ADE 2.0.1. That would mean Sony Readers, nook STR, and any other software using an older enough version of RMSDK won't work with their eBooks. The fix is very simple. Just remove two media queries that are not needed and they will work well enough. But they refuse to do this.

This is just a warning depending on the software being used to read these eBooks.

Yes, they also use special "small space" characters before ellipses that my Sony PRS-T1 can't display, and they show up as question marks.
Still, they're the only ones I've seen that take the effort to fix Gutenberg errors (which can be typos, or whole sentences missing or in the wrong place)

If you are using a pre-T1 Sony, the formatting goes away because the version of RMSDK used sees the two @media in the CSS as errors and ignores the entire CSS. The solution is to delete the two @media and the problem goes away. And things work well enough.
