It’s been years (i.e. decades) since I’ve read a James Bond, so I’ll second Casino Royale and Charlie can save his last nomination.

Re: Casino Royale, I meant to warn everyone that apparently there is a scene early in the book where Bond is tortured. It’s important to the book as background to Bond’s feelings and attitudes.
My understanding from reviews is that there is only one scene, so skippable. Otherwise, I wouldn’t nominate it. But if anyone has read the book and doesn’t think that’s an option, please let us know. |

I've read Casino Royale and I did not find the torture a problem.

In another thread on MR I noted the torture scene was memorable. Having read the book when I was quite young, that scene was about the only thing I remembered when we watched the Daniel Craig version of the movie. (The scene in the movie was not included in all jurisdictions apparently.) Whether it was that memorable because I was young when I read it, or whether it will was really that memorable ... well, I guess a re-read might tell.

I will second this book. I’ve already read the series and enjoyed it. I highly recommend the television series. It has some great actors in it. I’m super excited they decided to continue on with additional seasons for Books 2 and 3.

Curious about the definition of "relevant countries", I checked the 2 Kobo stores I can access and found that the median price available to me is ~$10US. Making it not relevant to me |

I assume "relevant countries" was probably based on the most regular participants, so US, CA, UK, AU (at one stage it included NZ too). We don't have hard price limits in the nominations, but obviously this will play a role with whether a nomination gets seconded and receives votes. Given the price that Catlady posted, my guess is that it was on special at that time but that is no longer the case; the outlets change prices pretty quickly sometimes and are not always clear about whether listed prices are specials. As such, it's generally good manners to refrain from criticism, it could be you that gets caught out next time.
