I had been torn between the PRS-505 and the K2.
Now it's settled, the plan is to buy a 505 on Tuesday night. |

Books-A-Million.
They have it in stock at $299 with a 10% discount for club members (which I am) and I have a coupon for $10 off any purchase of $50 or more so it's only going to be about $260 and I get it locally. |

I hope you enjoy your 505. I totally love mine. Lately I've been researching other readers thinking it was time to upgrade, but I haven't found any other devices that seemed like enough of an upgrade to buy a new reader.

I use my 505 almost exclusively for reading library books. I use ADE and it's super easy to download and put on my computer. THen I use the sony ebook software to organize it into my file marked "library books." At my library, you can check out 10 at a time, and return them early. They automatically go back after 3 weeks if you haven't returned them by then. I have discovered a pretty cool "loophole," however. If I close the book while I'm reading a library book, and it gets returned (b/c of the three week thing), I can turn on the book again and still finish the book, even though it's been returned already. But if I exit that book, I cannot reopen it again, since it's "expired." If I have a book on hold and it comes in, I have 3 days to pick it up. If I'm already "full" and have 10 books out, I'll pick one to return, check out the new book, and then not connect my sony to the computer until I've read the book I returned. The reader doesn't know the book is returned until it's connected to the computer. The PDF is a little small, and I know you can resize it using calibre, but I'm not that tech savvy, so I just read it the way it is, and I'm pretty happy with it. I love library books! |

I wasn't going to bother buying any and stick with my iTouch until the Txtr was released, but I don't think I can wait till 3rd quarter of this year, so I think I might buy the Sony PRS-505 soon, after all the users and recommendations I've seen here on Mobileread. Now I'm getting excited as a child a few days before X-Mas

Regarding Amazon's Police-State mentality associated with the Kindle:
I'm supposed to be receiving a "free" K2 in return for having been a reviewer for ABNA. Now that I've read about what they are doing to lock down their device (and, by extension, their owners) -- I'm very tempted to sell it and stick with my Sony's. I also have a Cybook and read Harry's post that the next firmware release is due out soon to enable folder support so may have to move that back into my rotation (though I really dislike the fact that the Cybook doesn't display page numbers like the Sony -- just the progress bar). [edited to add] I just sent a scathing email to Amazon letting them know that I do not intend to purchase a single piece of Kindle content from them. I also let them know that I will not be giving or selling the Kindle I am receiving because I don't want the next owner to buy any Kindle content from Amazon. I'm surprised they can't be in for some sort of antitrust violation for trying to monopolize content like that. If I bought a CD player from Amazon and Amazon tried to enforce a rule that I could only play CDs that were purchased from Amazon, that would never fly. Of course, I guess there are enough other options out there for eReaders to where there is no 'monopoly' consideration. I'm still really ticked off... as you can tell. Of course, I'm quite sure Amazon couldn't/won't care less since they have all the other K2 customers hooked like a monkey on crack cocaine! Last edited by purl4peace; 03-22-2009 at 11:38 AM.
