Can I, should I try to root this old nook?

I just picked up a pretty old nook 3g+wifi. I think it was one of the first ones made.

The serial number is 10014300xxxxxxxx

Software is 1.5.0

Modem Firmware L2_0_0_7AP

Will it be possible to root it? Should I even try or might it be better to leave well enough alone with this oldie?

Thank you.

Yes it's possible to Root your Nook ! ( for your Device it's Easy )
If you want following features list you should root your Nook:
-better & faster launcher
- Better PDF support (zoom & landscape functions )
-Picture viewer (NookSee)
-Better Library
- Full screen & Landscape function for Epub (fullscreen = without android top bar & ... )
- ability to install nookdevs.com/Application_Directory apps !
- use custom fonts
- ...

You can use both ways :

or
http://nookdevs.com/Softroot

any more question ?

Also there is a easier way ( if you can open your Nook ) to root your Nook :
Just you need a microSD Card reader + Linux (any linux ) !
just you should remove the System file MicroSD ( which is inside the Nook )
put it in your PC , change the "init" file with Any txt editor !
just find "service adbd /sbin/adbd" and change the "disable" to "enable" ...
you are done !

I know how to get to the internal microSD and I have a mocroSD adapter that I can use with me desktop.

You lost me with the Linux reference though. I have heard of it, but I don't know what it is.

Can I not do this with XP?

I think the best way for you is to use live linux ( Ubuntu Live CD )
(Download the Ubuntu Live CD (~600Mb ) then write the iso to a CD and then Boot it )
Now you have Linux !

if you have any question don't hesitate to ask !
