Adding metadata to mobi books

I've read that to add metadata to mobi books, I have to go thru these steps:
Preferences (from menu) -> common options (from conversion)->structure detection -> and click on insert metadata as page at start of book.
Then reconvert the book.

I've done this, but I'm not getting the metadata.

Am I doing something wrong?

calibre will update the metadata without reconversion if you save the book to disk or send to device.

You can also use the toolbar action Embed Metadata (if you have added it).

Tried the same thing and it worked for me. I converted a mobi into an epub with the insert metadata checked off. I opened the converted book and just after the cover page was the metadata page populated with the info.

The OP described inserting a book jacket in the beginning of the book, not embedding metadata.

Although embedding metadata may be what he wants. If his Mobi are dual or both (as set in the mobi output options during conversion) then metadata will not update in the book during save to disk or send to device. It would be best if he went to straight azw3 or mobi.
