Native or Best performing OS for Calibre Install
I'm a new user, and I really like what Calibre offers, unfortunately it is inexplicably slow on my Windows Server. I'm wondering what OS offers the very best performance for Calibre. I would like to run that in a VM to get the best experience. Thanks!!

It probably matters a lot more to have a decent computer. calibre runs just fine on Windows 7 & 8, but grinds to a near halt on an XP computer at my house -- AS DOES EVERYTHING ELSE!
If your computer is old and slow in general, that is the real problem. If, on the other hand, your computer is new or at least fast, and calibre is inexplicably slow, then something is wrong, and using a different OS is not entirely likely to fix anything. |

Thank you for your reply, eschwartz!
Computing power is not the issue I'm afraid. It hangs at times and I get Not Responding on the window, it sorts out what it is doing, but it takes A LOT more time than it should. My CPU isn't even breaking a sweat. I'm not really sure what Calibre has to do on an eBook add that takes so much time, does it scan the entire book? I'm not doing conversions. I'm running: Windows 8.1 64-bit Calibre 64-bit v1.15.0 i7-3930K (6-core@3.2GHz with HT) 32GB DDR3 (Quad Channel) |

Then you should check that link. The author has done quite a bit of research on speeding up calibre.

Not Responding is sort of normal (for short periods) on my Medium power W7 system.
Calibre has lots of things done in background and the GUI does not always get enough attention until things slow down. Even on my old P4 (XP) this only lasts under a minute. Note: When Queuing a goodly number of books (for conversion/transfer...) there can be a serious lack of feedback UNTIL the queue completes. One word: Patience Calibre will let you know if it Barfs |
