There's really no comparison between a "proper" audiobook, read by a real person, and a computer voice. Eg a good audiobook reader will have a different voice for each character in the book.

True. But points in favor of TTS: ebook is usually cheaper than audiobook version and is more likely to be available. The audiobook narrator inevitably puts his or her own interpretation on the text and colors it in a way you may of may not like. If the narrator is good, then all the better, but otherwise, I kind of prefer the flat computer voice. Finally, having the text in front of you for reference is very convenient. I really need that for anything other than easy entertaining reads.
