BN don't sell e-books worldiwide, whereas Amazon, and even smaller players such as Kobo and BooksOnBoard do. This automatically makes BN's market smaller and I have no idea why they don't sort out this issue (if it's possible for others, it should be possible for them, too).

The couple of times I went to my local B&N during the holiday shopping season, it was packed. Long lines waiting to check out and a bunch of people looking at Nooks.

Until installing of apps from other sources is opened up and publicized, sayonara nook. That would help some instead of just using their App Store which is meh.
Not sure what android tablet on the planet you cannot do that with. Rant over. Last edited by robertc88; 01-03-2013 at 11:44 AM. |

Amazon has been VERY aggressive this year with both E-ink and regular tablet models. I think they are eating B&N's lunch right now.

You can tell at our B&N. They have been laying people off left & right. I think they are letting go long time workers & hiring new ones at lower wages. I know of 5 long time B&N employees let go in the last 3 months.

The last time I was in a B&N was to exchange my HD+ which had a screen fault and the entire store (the layout and stock) struck me as a place that didn't know what it wanted to be. |

I don't see how carrying toys makes B&N more competitive, when it makes them compete with Toys R Us, Wal-Mart, Target, etc. |

I would have assumed B&N would be in a pretty good place ... aren't they the only big box bookstore in the US nowdays? Since Borders closed, is there another brick and mortar bookstore that covers all of the US?

B&N is basically it (some areas have Books A Million I guess), but B&N seems to be less and less a book store every time I go in (which isn't often).

I've had a B&N member card for the past 4 years. Usually paid for itself when I was buying a lot of paper books.
Over the past year, my spending on paper has dropped to almost zero and the member card doesn't discount ebooks. So, this will be my last year of membership and probably my last time in my local B&N store. |

B&N has the broadest distribution across the United States. There is also Books A Million, but their stores are also not just books.
