Highly Challenging Vote • July 2012
Help us choose the July 2012 selection to read for the MR Literary Club! The poll will be open for TWO days.
The vote is MULTIPLE CHOICE. You may vote for as many or as few as you like. The discussion thread will begin shortly after a winner is chosen (to discuss everything selection-related before, during and after reading). In the event of a tie, there will be a one-day non-multiple-choice run-off poll. In the event that the run-off poll also ends in a tie, the tie will be resolved in favour of the selection that received all of its initial nominations first. Select from the following works: A Clockwork Orange by Anthony Burgess Spoiler:
The Aeneid by Virgil Spoiler:
Memoirs of Hadrian by Marguerite Yourcenar Spoiler:
Middlemarch by George Eliot Spoiler:
Ulysses by James Joyce Spoiler:

I felt like voting for all of them--but that would be the same as voting for none. Thus I chose my three favourites--maybe one will make it!

I am running very much behind with the previous two months, and I'd be happy with any of these five, but did vote for just two of them as these are those I'd like to read first (well, being Italian the Aeneid would be a re-read, though it would be fun to have an excuse to re-read it outside a school environment).

Me too! I am only half-way through Love in the Time of Cholera. I got distracted by several library book holds that came available at the same time.
As typical, this month has several great nominations and more to add to my growing TBR list. Plus, I have to add Necropolis Railway from the other club to my TBR list too. I love trains and mystery books so what a great combination! |

I look forward to Middlemarch. T.S.Eliot considered it the greatest English novel. That doesn't mean it is, of course, but the fact that he thought so, is at least an indication that it's pretty good.

I'm happy for what won, though I would've been happy with any of the five winning this month; there were some great nominations.
The discussion thread for Middlemarch is now up here. |
