Uploads taking foreeeeeeeevvvvvveeeeerrrrr
Is it normal to see upload speeds of a few hundred BYTES per second when uploading a book? I don't seem to have any problems with the various on-line speed-test widgets. But uploading a book is dragging on and on (and on, and...)
Is there a problem with the site that might be causing this? Xenophon P.S. Speakeasy says I get 103Kbps upload -- call it about 10KBytes per second. But I'm seeing long periods of nothing, with the occasional 5KByte chunk headed up to Mobileread... Average upload to MR is currently running about 100 Bytes per second (5 minute average). Yuck! Alex has been moving the site to the new Canadian servers (eh?), perhaps that's having some effect ....

...and the mystery is solved! It turns out that clicking the upload button and seeing the Manage Uploads window say "upload in progress" (or whatever the text is) isn't good enough! If I look at network writes in activity monitor I (sometimes) see that there's minimal traffic. In these cases, another click (or two, or three) on the upload button does the trick.

Xenophon,
I see that you've uploaded a LOT of short stories as separate files. Don't you think that these would be a lot easier to handle if you were to collect them together into an anthology? |
