Unable to display ASIN in Custom Column
I found some threads regarding ASINs and tried to display them by adding a Custom Column but my column is empty. I don't know if I munged the construction or my records are missing that datum. Here's what my column looks like:
("Colum header" = "ASIN"; "Lookup name" = "#asin"; "Type" = "Column built from other colums") I actually would like help in two areas: proper construction of such a query, and how/where ASINs are found in a book's records. If you can help with either, I will be immensely grateful and will email (or FAX, if you prefer) big hugs. |

{identifiers} is the home of ASIN and others and that field is a bit different from others in that it has 2 sections: identifier type (eg ASIN, UPC ) and the identifier value)
(this is the S&R part of Bulk mode MDE) The source setup to copy from {identifiers} is in red. (your type choices will reflect what is available in YOUR library) My TESTLIB example used my Comments type field, (blue destination), so choose any field type that will accept your values (string) |

Hi, BetterRed, thanks for helping!

I used your suggestion and put the ASIN in Comments; that was successful. Nevertheless it doesn't appear in the Custom Column. Because you have it working properly, are you unable to intuit what I'm not doing or am doing wrong? Thanks muchly for you help: I'm pleased to know that I can get the ASINs! |

Sorry I gave you a bum steer, the identifier should have been 'amazon'.

Back in bidness!
On the 1st and 2nd I received notifications from MobilRead about new responses to my post (which were all triggered by my last update re: cooking a bum steer) and that prompted me to add one more, and a big to BetterRed.
Got my query working (thanks, Red; it was counter-intuitive) and the column populated properly. (Also got a few surprises–it's amazing what data are lurking in the metadata and book innards! And what's missing!) Thanks to all who looked, and those who were able to contribute, |
