Difference between "Sending books to devices" and "Sharing over the net"
I have a couple recent fetched weekly news in Calibre library, of the same publisher.
1. When sending via email to Kindle, the weekly news will list as separate issues on Kindle, with title and pubdate in place; 2. When download the same issues at local x.x.x.x:8080, the weekly news will merged under same title on Kindle; Would you help explain the differences here, and how to get the same results as 2, i.e. weekly news merged under same title like a folder, when sending books via email? |

when you email books to the kindle amazon reprocesses them, so that they are no longer recognized as periodicals. You need to use either the server or the USB cable to send downloaded news to theKindle.

After fetching news receipts, I normally convert them to azw3 format, and download the azw3 periodicals to Kindle via Calibre content server. While on Kindle, the book list display {Title} - {Author}, which would be better as {Title}-{Pubdate}.
Which setting in Preferences should I look into, "Sending book to device" or "Sharing over the net" seems not the right place. Thanks! |

Title - Author would always overwrite or fail because it was a duplicate BTW I would use the plugboard for Kindles {Title}-{Pubdate} -> {Title} |

Try plugboard such as
Format=azw3 Device=content_server Source template={title}-{pubdate} Destination field={title} The book list display on Kindle remain the same as {title}-{author}. and when change "Device" to "Kindle", Calibre will display error popup such as azw3 format not supported on Kindle. Any further suggestion or comment? thanks. |

So far I have been trying the following configurations in Preference, in case of both "Share over the net" (local content server) and USB cable:
- Sending books to device; - Metadata plugboard; - Configure this device (when Kindle is plugged in) by defining {author_sort}/{title} - {pubdate} as the save template. In all scenarios, - AZW3 will stick to {title}-{author} on Kindle book list, - MOBI will always display {title}-{pubdate} as defined So it seems to do with AZW3 format only, where Calibre's configuration will be missed. |

calibre does not update metadata in joint format MOBI files (those containting both old mobi and kf8). So plugboards wont work with those.

Not sure AZW3 is joint format - or is there place in Calibre to ensure that.
also MOBI works in my cases, to correctly display {title}-{pubdate} as defined. |

So would you suggest a way to get azw3/kf8 file on Kindle in defined metadata template such as: {author_sort}/{title} - {pubdate} ? Appreciate the help! |

news can only be read in mobi format. There is no point converting it to azw3. And no by KindleSplit I mean KindleSPlit.

Reading MOBI on Kindle is limited to default font, and I'd like to use a custom font.
I find KindleUnpack plugin, and split azw3 and add only epub/kf8 only back to calibre. Yes, this way the plugboard metadata setting works when I connect Kindle by USB, but there are still issues left to figure out: - {pubdate} only display month-year on Kindle, without date - such plugboard setting not working for content_server yet, i.e. "Sharing over the net" Would you kindly elaborate further? thanks. |
