Sony PRS 505 or PRS 300?
Hi,
I have decided to get an ereader as I read far too many books and space is becoming an issue lol. All I will be doing with the reader is reading story books on it so I don't need many features and I would like it as cheap as possible. Taking that into account I am looking at the Sony PRS 505 or the 300. I know the 505 is old tech now but it has a nice size to it with the 6" screen and it also comes with a case which saves some cash. I have also managed to find an as new second hand 505 for £140 with 1 years warranty, which I think is a bargin. But I also like the 300 although I think it maybe a bit on the small side. Apart from that I can't see any differences?? Am I best going for the second hand 505?? |

Go with the 505 with that deal. The 300 is smaller, does not come with the clip on cover (it has a sleeve), doesn't have audio capabilities and no memory card slot. The price on the 300 reflects this though ($199 USD). The 505 is a great reader and that's a great price, just make sure whoever you are buying it from is reputable.

Second what lilac said about the 505 versus the 300. If you really want the 5" screen, you might also look at the Hanlin clones. They have a faster processor than the 505 and 300 with many of the 505s features (real case, SD card slot, mp3 capabilities). It's sold in Europe as the BeBook for 199 Euros and does not come with the case. In the US it's the Astak PocketPro for $199 and comes with a case. Not sure what shipping would be from either source, but I know that Astak ships internationally.

Thanks for the quick replys guys much appreciated. I am purchasing the 505 from a shop here in the UK that sells second hand things and I have bought from them before and they have a shop on my high street so I am very happy about buying it from them.
I have had a look at the Astak reader and looks wise its a be meh lol but you are right in that it has some very nice features. I have emailed Astak about shipping to the UK so hopefully will get a quick reply from them. The Bebook after a very quick look is going for £180 over here so the 505 is looking very tempting tbh. |
