02:40 PM by Zire in Archive | Handhelds and Smartphones I know that it's been a while since I put anything on the front page but this is big news. I am in awe of the new palms with large amounts of dynamic memory only because they can take advantage of such programs from codejedi such as GuineaPig which I have been wanting to try for a long time. This amazing program combines a genesis emulator, turbografix 16 emulator, gamegear emulator and sega master system emulator. The best of all it's free! I found the following tidbit looking for an update of the palm pilot movie maker for the new treo and came upon something that I found interesting. It is a hack to "increase" the amount of dynamic memory on any palm. It is currently in beta and I havn't got to try it but it looks promising. From the site: Unlimited Dynamic Memory Hack - by Dmitry Grinberg 08/31/2004 17:53 Unlimited Dynamic Memory Hack is in beta right now. Allows you to run programs that require a lot of dynamic memory, and thus will not run on older palms. Hopefully release will follow soon. |

08:01 AM by Alexander Turcic in Archive | Mobile Sites This is a recommended read for everyone who makes websites and who also cares about handhelds. A List Apart features an interesting article that deals with the question how to adjust your webpage to the needs of handheld devices. Co-written by Jorunn D. Newth from Opera Software, the article first examines the constaints of a handheld device (small screen, limited input, slow downloading, slow processor, limited memory) and then explains how a webdesigner can scale-down his page to take these constaints into account (mainly through HTML optimization and special CSS markup). I know MobileRead is still lacking full support for mobile devices; trust me, implementing it ranks very high on my list of to-do's! |

03:10 PM by ignatz in Miscellaneous | Lounge Okay, since we began talking about RSS here several months have passed. I'm curious what people have settled on for readers. I've been using Firefox's RSS and then Sage readers, but now I've got an appetite for something that will alert me to new entries, like FeedReader. But I'm open to other avenues. So tell me: what RSS reader do you use? |

For 6 Shiny new 2004 Model GMail invites: What publically-accessible document, pdf, website, ebook, or other work, would you like to see converted into a high-quality Plucker and iSilo document, for distribution either free, or for a small fee to cover the cost of conversion? I've already done the 9/11 Commission Report in Plucker format and iSilo format, and users have been raving at the quality and speed of the document. I'd like to contribute more... but I need some ideas, and this is your chance to chime in to win some GMail invites to help us decide! |

12:20 AM by ignatz in Archive | Handhelds and Smartphones Engadget is reporting a rumor of a Dell x50 in the works, supposedly for October release. No pics as yet. Like the x3 and x30, there will be several models, the highest featuring a 3.7" VGA screen. All models will have SD and compact flash slots. Alledgedly. (I'm not a PPC user yet, but I don't see why they won't let compact flash go...) Sounds pretty exciting if it's true. October is my birthday month. Hopefully the release of the x50 will drive the prices down on the x30 line. |
