Recycle your PDA at Staples

08:09 PM by Colin Dunstan in Miscellaneous | Lounge

In celebration of America Recycles Day next Monday, Staples is asking consumers to recycle their used PDAs, pagers, rechargeable batteries and ink and toner.

"As part of our company-wide commitment to protect natural resources, Staples is proud to support America Recycles Day," said Mark Buckley, vice president of environmental affairs at Staples. "We're pleased to help our customers 'close the loop' by recycling their used products and offering them 2,800 products with recycled content whenever they shop at Staples."

So you can just go to any of Staples 1,100 U.S. stores to recycle your used products.

Unofficial video driver gives boost to Axim X50v

06:40 PM by Colin Dunstan in Archive | Handhelds and Smartphones

A programmer from Bulgaria Hungary managed to write a tweaked GAPI driver (free + open-source) called X50v GAPI QVGA to accelerate GAPI video performance for games and emulators that don't officially support the new graphic chip of the Dell Axim X50v.

Users report that with this driver a game for instance like Warfare Inc. that was before "choppy at times and slow" now plays "smooth and fast."

There are still a few bugs to be ridden off (e.g. graphics sometimes fade in and out), but considering how fast this independent project is evolving, I have no doubt that the driver reaches "stable" in no time.

Believe it or not, Tablet PCs were mentioned in the Bible. No, really! Well, sort of.

Check it out at Working Smart

His blog covers tech topics surrounding efficient ways to get things done along the lines of David Allen's GTD philosophy.

Free Today Weather Plugin

05:33 PM by Bob Russell in Archive | Handhelds and Smartphones

Weather To Go is a free application for Pocket PC that gives weather information on your Today screen. It can also be found at http://www.tonaya.com/

I haven't tried it yet, but I'm going to install it this weekend because it looks great! Those of you on PalmOS... eat your hearts out. Yea, yea, yea. I know... Palm still has the best PIM apps.

Thanks to PDA 24/7 for the original mention.

If anyone gives this a try, let us know what you think.

I don't have any information for how long the coupon works, so better hurry if you are in need of a new Palm

Diesel eBooks is a new e-book store providing instant access to over 35,000 mostly commercial book titles in various formats (Microsoft Reader LIT, eReader, and Adobe PDF).

Browsing their shop I noticed that some of my favorite books were not available for purchase. Let's hope they will be able to get more e-books in stock over time.

At Geek.com I stumbled over an exclusive 20% discount. Just type in dieselgeek15 during the check-out process after selecting your books.

Paris Hilton actually using her Sidekick II toy

01:24 PM by Colin Dunstan in Archive | Handhelds and Smartphones

You've probably heard about T-Mobile's exclusive celebrity-laden launch party for the Danger Sidekick 2 which took place in August this year. Tony Hawk, Shannon Elizabeth, Paris Hilton, and other luminaries in young Hollywood traveled the red carpet to receive the trendy new gadget for free before anyone else did.

Today (three months after the party), while skimming the entertainment news, I found a link to a hi-res photo of Paris at the Cadillac R&R Spring 05 Fashion Show. Look here and here at what she is holding in her lap.... doesn't this crystal encrusted gadget look familiar to you?

This was definitely a great marketing idea! I think T-Mobile, among all mobile gadgets suppliers, should receive the Best Marketing Award 2004
