'Diesel eBooks' bookstore opens - 20% discount

01:40 PM by Colin Dunstan in E-Book General | Deals and Resources (No...

Diesel eBooks is a new e-book store providing instant access to over 35,000 mostly commercial book titles in various formats (Microsoft Reader LIT, eReader, and Adobe PDF).

Browsing their shop I noticed that some of my favorite books were not available for purchase. Let's hope they will be able to get more e-books in stock over time.

At Geek.com I stumbled over an exclusive 20% discount. Just type in dieselgeek15 during the check-out process after selecting your books.

Paris Hilton actually using her Sidekick II toy

01:24 PM by Colin Dunstan in Archive | Handhelds and Smartphones

You've probably heard about T-Mobile's exclusive celebrity-laden launch party for the Danger Sidekick 2 which took place in August this year. Tony Hawk, Shannon Elizabeth, Paris Hilton, and other luminaries in young Hollywood traveled the red carpet to receive the trendy new gadget for free before anyone else did.

Today (three months after the party), while skimming the entertainment news, I found a link to a hi-res photo of Paris at the Cadillac R&R Spring 05 Fashion Show. Look here and here at what she is holding in her lap.... doesn't this crystal encrusted gadget look familiar to you?

This was definitely a great marketing idea! I think T-Mobile, among all mobile gadgets suppliers, should receive the Best Marketing Award 2004

Do pretty girls ride the subway?

08:56 AM by Alexander Turcic in Miscellaneous | Lounge

Someone hacked into computer system of NYC's subway yesterday and changed the LED message at the West Fourth Station to read "PRETTY GIRLS DON'T RIDE THE SUBWAY." The new message appeared for several hours before it was removed. New York Daily News has the scoop:

Some riders at the busy hub that serves seven lines took offense, while others laughed it off. "It's a vicious lie," said Rachel Russell, 37, an East Village arts-program coordinator, mostly in jest. "I think someone is trying to be clever." Lucia Morales, 31, a social worker from East New York, Brooklyn, was waiting for a downtown A train to take her home from celebrating a promotion. "That's horrible," she said of the sign. "I'm pretty, and I take the subway every day."

eBayFeed 1.12 - eBay non-US fixed

06:50 PM by Alexander Turcic in Miscellaneous | Lounge

This is the second time that eBay first did some changes to eBay US, then waited two weeks, and then applied the same changes to all other local eBays on this planet. Anyways, you are advised to upgrade to eBayFeed 1.12 for a fix.

source code: here and here.

full package, zipped: here.

You can still see the script in action at halted.de (make sure to copy it on your own server as this server is only for temporary demonstration purposes!)

If you want to give it a quick try, use this feed link with your favorite feed reader like Bloglines, FeedDemon, etc.

About:
eBayFeed/1.12 allows you to create customized RSS 2.0 feeds of your favorite eBay searches. Compared to other eBay-to-RSS solutions, ebayFeed has the following advantages: it is fully customizable and extensible (open-source), it supports eBay platforms of other countries (take a look at config.inc), you can run it on your own server, it doesn't log your clicks on items, nor does it advertise your search habits to others (such as qksrv.net), and it allows you to fully utilize eBay's advanced search forms. It currently supports eBay USA, eBay UK, eBay Germany, eBay France, eBay Italy.
