Free ebooks at eReader.com

09:40 PM by Brian in E-Book General | Deals and Resources (No...

www.ereader.com is running a December promotion by offering a free ebook for download every day. The only catch is that you have to create an account if you don't have one already.

Spread the word, this promotion could be a great way to expose people to ebooks for the first time with some great free titles.

Brian

[Editor's Note: Thanks for the tip Brian. Consider the word spread! Hmm... I wonder if there's going to be something similar at Palmgear and Pocketgear also? BobR]

Sunrise Tutorial Available

09:23 PM by Bob Russell in Archive | Sunrise

If you haven't heard about Sunrise yet, it's an exciting new piece of software that allows you to extract web content into Plucker format which can be viewed with the Plucker reader on PalmOS devices, or the Vade Mecum reader on Pocket PC devices.

If you've been hesitant to give it a try, now's the time! You can take advantage of an online Sunrise tutorial available at http://palmattitude.org/guides/Sunrise/ . It has been praised by none less than the author of Sunrise himself at Sunrise News.

Just in case you don't speak French, you can get a translation using either
Google language tools or Babelfish Translation.

Free Weekly Software from Handango

07:10 PM by Bob Russell in Miscellaneous | Lounge

This bit of news almost makes up for the rotten customer service I've gotten recently from Handango. (A story for another day!)

Our favorite Palm news source, Palm Addict, is reporting a promotion going on over at Handango. They are offering a free software program each week through the end of January, 2005.

It seems that there is a program for Palm and one for Pocket PC. I've got both kinds of devices so I browsed both device tabs and by clicking on the free app a week giveaway logo, I apparently got one of each.

They look like real apps, not "free stuff that we give you free as our special deal!" One was PocketCook and the other was QuoteMaster. I assume that PocketCook was for Palm and QuoteMaster was for PPC, but I'm not really sure yet to be honest because the site was a little confusing to me. But if you have a smart phone be sure to add a smart phone device to your Handango device list and see if there's something else there for you!

While you're there, pick another program to buy if you see something you like.. it's always good to reward a company that's doing something nice!

Streaming WiFi Content for your PDA

04:17 PM by Bob Russell in Archive | Handhelds and Smartphones

Do you have a fancy new PDA with a WiFi card or built-in WiFi? Are you sitting around with a wireless internet connection but wishing you had loaded up on MP3s or video?

Well, there's a great article at PocketPC Magazine with just the information you want.

RadioShowLinks is a directory of Internet radio shows and stations. You can listen live or on-demand. The directory includes schedules and stream links for talk radio, current events, business, the arts, and other programming.

Many top talk radio shows can be found on the Popular Internet Radio Show channel, including Rush Limbaugh, Dr. Laura Schlessinger, Bill O'Reilly, Sean Hannity, Al Franken, and others.

Another channel includes many popular NPR and other Public Radio shows, including streams directly from National Public Radio as well as webcasting Internet radio stations from the NPR network.

The site also serves its schedules on RSS feeds.

It’s all free, and no registration is required.

Tip: Follow the links to the article above to get the full scoop.

Sony's NW-HD3 - The First iPod Killer

08:05 AM by Fredreck in Archive | Portable Audio/Video

Thanks to gadgetguru for the tip off.

This unit makes the iPod look childish and for whimps (OK so I own an ipod too so that makes me a whimp until I get my hands on one of these beauties)...

Although slightly more expensive than the ipod, the extra price is worth it.

1. Boosting a 1 cm shorter! and more sharper look, Sony's Mp3 compitable player.

2. The battery life lasts 2.5 longer than the iPods.

3. This unit also weighs considerably less than the ipod 20GB unit: Sony 130g vs. iPod 158g.

4. The player still uses ATRAC technology which means you can store heaps more songs than the ipod without losing sound quality. Songs are automatically converting by the player itself so no external converison is needed by you.

5. This player also supports the standard remotes that come with most Sony MD/CD players, however although the control will work the display won't. For those of you with a Hi-Md player. The remote works perfectly, display and all.
