OneClickdigital & Zinio Library Apps Merging

05:39 AM by tubemonkey in E-Book General | News

Attention users of the OneClickdigital and Zinio library apps. On Dec 5th, these two apps will merge into one single app -- RBdigital -- for access to audiobooks, ebooks, and magazines.

Dear OneClickdigital Administrators,

On December 5, 2016, we will be changing the name of OneClickdigital to RBdigital and launching a newly enhanced RBdigital mobile app. The changes to the mobile app and to OneClickdigital/RBdigital web access are listed below.

Spoiler:

Mobile App

* The new RBdigital app will combine our OneClickdigital eBook/audiobook app with our Zinio for Libraries magazine app, so access to audiobooks, magazines, and eBooks will all be in one app.

* The RBdigital app for patrons will feature improved navigation and native search.

* To ensure a seamless transition, patrons will be notified directly through their current OneClickdigital app to upgrade to the new RBdigital app.

Web Access

* OneClickdigital (soon to be RBdigital) will keep all the previous functionality but will feature improved navigation and a more modern design.

* There will be no change to your MARC records for this update and your existing OneClickdigital URL will continue to function normally after the change.

Please note that if your library currently subscribes to Zinio for Libraries, patrons will be able to access all three formats (audiobooks, magazines, and eBooks) in the RBdigital app. Access to magazines through the website will remain independent of OneClickdigital/RBdigital until later in 2017.

To ensure a seamless transition, we will provide logos, patron-facing marketing materials, and communication templates before the end of November.

Thank you for your ongoing partnership and support.

Your RBdigital Team

EU Court of Justice rules libraries can lend e-books

04:03 AM by jhowell in E-Book General | News

From Ars Technica UK:

Public libraries can lend out electronic books, the European Union's highest court has ruled.

The judgment confirms the opinion of Maciej Szpunar, advocate general to the the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU), who said back in June that lending out e-books should be permitted in the 28-member-state bloc provided authors are fairly compensated in the same way as for physical books.

Press release on the ruling.

Scribd adds magazines

05:28 AM by AnemicOak in E-Book General | News

Scribd has added magazines to their lineup. Pretty limited selection, but might be of interest to some folks.

We’re excited to announce that members can now read articles from their favorite magazines on Scribd!

In addition to access to the best books, audiobooks, documents, and more, your Scribd membership now includes unlimited access to Time, Money, Fortune, People, Bloomberg Businessweek, Entrepreneur, Foreign Policy, and New York Magazine. We plan to add new magazines to Scribd on a rolling basis, including issues from Newsweek and The Atlantic in the coming weeks.

Members will have the option to read articles from or full issues of their favorite magazines, browse trending articles and topics, or explore on their own by areas of interest. Even better, you can quickly and easily find books, audiobooks, or documents that are related to the topic of any article you read on Scribd.

“We’ve always envisioned Scribd to be the reading destination that connects readers to the best written work, and magazine articles have been one of our most requested features,” said Trip Adler, CEO of Scribd. “We’ve combined books, audiobooks, documents, and now articles, around areas of interest. With this content agnostic experience, our members are now free to skim what’s trending or dive deep into any subject.”
