Category Selection Nominations for June 2013
The June 2013 category selection will be similar to the other category selections we have done so far for 2013. We'll have one poll after all nominations are in; there will be no run-off poll except in case of a tie. If a second poll also results in a tie, I'll cast my vote as the tie-breaker.
* This thread will be open for 7 days or 21 fully seconded and thirded nominations (we don't want a poll that's too large), whichever comes first. * The poll that follows will be up for 4 days. * Each member has three votes in this thread to use either as nominations or to second or third another members nominations. June category nominations are now closed. The story thus far: Quote:

I'll third Science Fiction and second Fantasy.
I'll also nominate Modern Literature using the following definition that the book nominated has to have been written in the past 10 years. Last edited by JSWolf; 01-10-2013 at 05:55 PM. |

It was originally a term originally coined to describe extreme horror stories, but has broadened out a bit to cover more visceral story-telling. You could perhaps call it throught-provoking horror that holds no punches. One of the best short stories I have ever read was a in a book of splatterpunk tales. Of course, some of it is awful (yes Mr Carlton Mellik III, I'm looking at you). Authors such as Clive Barker, Poppy Z. Brite, Jack Ketchum, Joe R. Lansdale, Richard Laymon, Richard Matheson, and many others have been considered to have produced works in this sub-genre. I've even had a go myself....
