Clausewitz: On War, v.1, 7 July 2008.
On War, by Clausewitz, is probably the most important document in existence on Military strategy and tactics. It's truths and insights are so universal that it is even being used for management training of business executives and for sports teams.
I produced this book with the permission, cooperation, and assistance of The Clausewitz Homepage (www.clausewitz.com). That site is masterminded by Christopher Bassford, Ph.D., who is the recognized authority on all things Clausewitz, and is also Professor of Strategy at the National War College. His work on this web site is the only complete text of On War online. He provided me all that text and various graphics for this project. Consequently, this is the only complete eBook of On War. All of the Clausewitz Homepage text was structured for maximum readability and navigation in a web environment. I de-tagged and de-structured that text and re-organized it for best use on the Sony Reader. In addition, I created an over-arching commercial-type book design and layout to pour the text into. Before plunging into this eBook, one should read Dr. Bassford's excellent overview and background: "Clausewitz and His Works". It is available HERE, and as chapter 0.3 of this eBook. Statistics on this eBook include: ~ 300,000 words As usual, I created only the LRF format, but am providing the complete HTML source. The HTML is extremely tight and readable and has passed the W3C validation. Set your converter to make a hard page break before any <h\d, class, title) tag. Although this eBook is maximized for the Sony Reader, it should work at least pretty well in other formats. If anybody has difficulty with this, PM me and I'll see if I can de-nature the HTML sufficiently to facilitate this conversion.~ 12,000 paragraphs ~ 600 pages as viewed via MS-Word or MS-IE. ~ 1,000 pages on the Sony Reader (small font) BTW - just launching the HTML on a normal PC also gives a pretty good experience. Just resize the browser window to be a bit larger that the coverpage and start scrolling. The TOC links work under this circumstance, as well. If anybody finds this useful, PM me and I can provide a HTML version with horizontal lines where the hard page breaks are.
