Calibre not seeing SD card in Astak EZReader Pocket Pro
Hi all,
I'm not sure if this is a Calibre problem or a reader problem, but I'm leaning towards it being a Calibre issue. I have a nice, new Astak EZReader Pocket Pro that I want to use with Calibre, It has the most recent firmware upgrade and a 16GB Sandisk SD card. When I plug it into my laptop or desktop (both running up to date Ubuntu 9.10), the OS sees both the readers internal memory and the SD card, but Calibre only sees the internal memory. One time it saw that card as well, but every other time it only sees the internal memory. So far I've been saving my books to internal memory and then manually moving them to the SD card using either Dolphin (on KDE) or Thunar (on Xfce). Anyone care to hazard a guess as to what could be wrong or provide a suggestion for troubleshooting? Oh, it's also the most recent Calibre 0.6.45 version on both machines. Thanks, |

Okay, this is what I get. Calibre doesn't seem to see the SD card. Anyone have any ideas?

According to this line
Total space: (385662976L, 15923150848L, 0) it is detecting your SD card, but it's not able to find books on the card. what does ebook-device books give you? And try formatting the card/a smaller card, the usual. |

Calibre 6.45 on Ubuntu Karmic sees my SD card on The Pocket Pro.
March 2010 firmware update has been pulled: Buggy Your file system on your SD card has been damaged. (4G card with 700 titles...then only 200 ) A Karmic scan did not find and fix all of the errors A Windows scan found more I reformatted the SD card with Windows. Rolled back the Astak firmware to Dec 2009, reloaded my books. All is well |

I suppose the card could be having issues or it could be the firmware but I was using the card for something else before so it's been connected to both Windows and Linux boxes various times with no issues. Also, the Pocket Pro sees all my books and doesn't have any issues and the same with Ubuntu. Calibre is the only one not seeing all the books. Although it could still be an odd issue with the file system I find it less likely. I'll try Kovid's request for the output of ebook-device books and go from there. I'll also see if I can find a smaller card and reformat this card to see if it fixes the issues. One step at a time.

See, somethings odd because I just plugged the reader in to try Kovid's request and Calibre saw both the internal memory and the SD card. It's such a pain when it's inconsistent like this. I'll try again when it isn't recognized.

I think I may have resolved the issue. I was also adding and removing books manually using the Dolphin file manager and I think that was the issue. If I let Calibre do it's think first, I don't seem to be having the problem.
Fix: let Calibre have control of the reader first, then if I want to do anything manually, I can do so afterwards. Thanks for all the help. |

Oh, I know that
I was using doing it manually as I didn't have Calibre set up yet on that particular laptop and I was also transferring files between home and work Now I have Calibre set up properly and synced between home and work and I'm not using the reader to transfer files any more. Okay... another update...
It seems it wasn't my manual futzing causing the problem as much as I wasn't giving my system enough time to see the SD storage. I am now having almost 100% success by: 1) Connecting my reader to the system and waiting for the system to see both storage locations 2) Starting Calibre and waiting for Calibre to see both storage locations. 3) Play! Sometimes it can take up to 20 seconds for everything to settle. My laptop is older so it's not a speed demon. I was starting Calibre too early so things hadn't settled and the SD card wasn't being seen. All well now! |

In this case my laptop was occasionally taking longer than that. It seems that was the problem. Now that I'm waiting until everything settles, I don't have problems.
