January's *Category* Nominations.
We'll do this just the way we do the Book Club nominations, except to expedite matters, we'll only have one vote for each month's category rather than having a first vote followed by a run-off vote. It's kind of unnecessary, since losing categories can always be considered for the following month.
* This thread will be open for 7 days or 7 fully seconded and thirded nominations, whichever comes first. * The poll will be up for 4 days. * Three votes or nominations per member. GO! The nominations are listed in the 4th post. Official Nominations with 3 votes each: (1) Second Chance (2) Award Winners (3) Young Adult (4) Classics (5) Modern Fiction (6) Major Award Winners Last edited by WT Sharpe; 11-10-2012 at 03:11 PM. I liked January as "vote between runners-up from the last year." That works nicely as a second chance for those books; the pros and cons have often already been discussed a bit, which works well for January, when a lot of us are recovering from the holidays.

I still like January as second chance month.
ETA: That turns out to be a second for Elfwreck's nomination. |

So are we going to go through every month for next year and have a nomination and then vote for the category for each? I noticed that the results for the poll on allowing repeats of categories (the result by one vote was yes) went unremarked. I like the idea of a month to give runner up selections a second shot, and January is a good month to do that so I've got no alternate to suggest.

I'll nominate "Award Winners".
Sorry to ask this, but why wouldn't we pick the 12 categories first, and then decide the months? |

If we started with categories first, then decided which month to place each in, the process might not be finished in time for January's nominations. |

1 week for category nominations. 1 week for category vote. 1 week for January vote. Equals 3 weeks. 3 weeks is end of November, which is in time for January. |
