After update to 5.11.11 my kindle stopped working properly.
My kindle updated itself to newest update, and after that I couldnt turn it on without long press of the power button. When I contacted Amazon they couldnt fix it, and they offered me a 15% discount (sic!!) to buy another device ince they have broken my current one with the software uodate which i DIDNT WANTED!!
My kindle still running, but I can reset it to factory settings (its catching a bootloop), whenever I try to connect it to the computer it askd to format the space ( so I cant get access to the directory tree). I am looking forward to try with the serial port and rewrite the proper software so It can work properly. And my question is: Where I can find the ROM files for PW2? All the links are dead, I cant download it from anywhere. These dont work and I cant get a mirror anywhere: Code:
PW(Paperwhite) main images (root pw = fiona2bc): pw_5.2.0-main_kernel: http://www.mediafire.com/?51r6gm6new6tv19 pw_5.2.0-main_kernel: http://ixtab.tk/kindle-touch-images/PaperWhite/pw_5.2.0-main_kernel.img.gz pw_5.2.0-mmcblk0p1+jb+ssh: http://www.mediafire.com/?5w619l68mrcawlb pw_5.2.0-mmcblk0p1+jb+ssh: http://ixtab.tk/kindle-touch-images/PaperWhite/pw_5.2.0-mmcblk0p1.img.gz PW(Paperwhite) diags images: pw_5.2.0-diags_kernel: http://www.mediafire.com/?alv98tlq28rtx5e pw_5.2.0-diags_kernel: http://ixtab.tk/kindle-touch-images/PaperWhite/pw_5.2.0-diags_kernel.img.gz pw_5.2.0-mmcblk0p2: http://www.mediafire.com/?afodh08q5had1z1 pw_5.2.0-mmcblk0p2: http://ixtab.tk/kindle-touch-images/PaperWhite/pw_5.2.0-mmcblk0p2.img.gz Do somebody got these files and can sent them to me? Or tell me how to obtain them? Thank you very much |

You can use current official updates. You'll be over serial, so factory image or not is irrelevant, unless you really broke diags, which shouldn't be the case here.

Those are for the PW(1) not for the PW2. PS: KindleTool most certainly does work, exactly as described. Enter its name on the command line without any arguments and it will print its help file. Read it and follow it. The PW2 was released after Amazon adopted "full image" update files, so you can use any of those which Amazon has posted on their server (you have to edit the firmware version number in the URL if you want something other than the current version). |

I have tried to fix my kindle, but as I had a sh*tty equipment, I accidentally removed one of the pads on the serial port . Is there any solution to fix it? Im trying to put some solder on it, but its not catching to that place. Anybody had a problem like this?

Use TM800/TM801 on the backside of the PCB for RX/TX (or TX/RX).
(As kind of the same thing happened to me, I am resurrecting this zombie thread. Maybe it's useful for somebody. Note so self: Always immediately sticky tape your bodge wires) |

^ Look on the other side of the board as suggested above.
Or follow a trace (line) that goes from the pad to a convenient location & gently scrape the resist/mask (coloured, non-conductive coating) off. You will see the copper trace underneath to which you can solder a thin e.g. 28 ga wire. |

Humans seem to always think: "I don't need to do that, I will just be careful". Yeah, Right! I have been including directions to add a drop of epoxy to the wires even before starting to solder them. Evidently, human nature says: "Who? Me? That must mean the other people" |
