Get a Yahoo Mail beta invite - here is how to
Yahoo Mail beta is Yahoo's answer to Gmail: webmail like desktop mail - thanks to Ajax. Normally it's hard to get an invite, but here is a how-to to get yourself invited immediately (I just got invited, see screenshot):
How to change your content preference:

Works like a charm.
You can even change your preferred content back after you accept the invite. You can also go back to the old version if you don't like the Beta. Personally, I like Gmail better. The Yahoo! beta seems nice, but slower. Partly because of the graphics and the big ad that keeps loading on the right hand side everytime you do something. If you block ads in your browser, might not be so bad. Given the ad size (and the animation), I imagine they are going to make some money with this service. |

It does work, however, the "Member Information" - "General Preferences" link is labelled "Edit" on my system. Other than that it works smoothly and seems kinda cool. Good thing that we have vigorous competition in this sphere to drive innovation.

One problem with heavy Ajax application like this one is that they seem to slow down the browser. When I log into mail.yahoo.com I can even see my CPU spike up.

Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to work on SBC/Yahoo accounts. I was able to make it work on a new yahoo account but not my existing one. Bummer.
