Hawthorne, Nathaniel: Grandfather’s Chair: The Whole History. v1. 16 Jan 2023
Written with the goal of acquainting children with the nation’s colonial history and struggle for independence. In these interlinked stories, a chair that passes from one famous person to another serves as the vehicle for presenting information about important characters and events of early Massachusetts history. Entertaining and informative, this book can be enjoyed by children and adults. ============= Nathaniel Hawthorne (né Hathorne; July 4, 1804 – May 19, 1864) was an American novelist, biographer, and short story writer. He is seen as a key figure in the development of American literature for his tales of the nation's colonial history. His fiction works are considered part of the Romantic movement and, more specifically, dark romanticism. Many of his works feature moral metaphors with an anti-Puritan inspiration, centering on the inherent evil and sin of humanity. Hawthorne’s best-known works include The Scarlet Letter and The House of the Seven Gables. ============= This book is derived from the Houghton & Mifflin 1896 edition. Author’s Prefaces from the first editions have been added. The Appendices (added by the publisher for this edition) have been moved to the end of the book. Embedded font for titling and decorative caps. Available with Drop Caps or Up Caps ============= The contents of this book were first published 1840 ~ 1842. Originally published in three parts, and as a single volume in 1851. This book is in the public domain world-wide because the author died more than 100 years ago, and it was published prior to 1927. .
