Kindle can no longer see my Calibre-added books and their highlights...

Hi all

New to this, so learning as I go, but basically the on/off switch got trapped under the finger strap, causing multiple restarts... which appeared to somehow trigger the disappearance of all books added to the device via calibre - and, more importantly, their highlights.

However connecting to the computer shows that all the books are still actually on the device.

Is there any way to get the Kindle to see the books again, along with their highlights? I'm imagining that just dragging all the books back on from Calibre would probably mean I would definitely not see my highlights again...

Any pointers much appreciated!

Thanks

Alex

How can I get my Kindle to see the books again?

Have you tried deleting and re-sending them?

Thankyou.

I just tried completely deleting one book (which is present on the device but cannot be seen) off the Kindle (including all associated files and folders for it) via disk access.

Calibre then correctly showed that this book was not on the device.

I dragged the back onto the device in Calibre, which then showed that it was now on the device.

Disconnected the Kindle, looked on it, but still it cannot see the book... don't know what's going on!

Do you have any books still indexing? (to check this, enter a nonsense string in the search on the homepage, like "ksfgjofj". It should reply that some books are still not indexed, if that's the case.

And after deleting/resending it's also good to restart the Kindle.

Thanks for your help Sirtel. I've tried restarting the Kindle, and the search tip - the Kindle is not still indexing.

When I reconnect to Calibre, the Calibre shows that all my old books, including the one I deleted and re-sent, are present on the device. Yet when I disconnect and look on the Kindle, it can't see a single one of them - only synced/downloaded books are visible.

What can be happening here? Maybe I should get a Kobo...

One possible reason I can think of is the wrong device time. Is the time on your Kindle correct?

Thanks again, time and date are both correct!

Starting to feel like all my carefully assembled highlights are lost forever...

It could be that you managed to somehow corrupt the database.

Indeed, so my questions are, which file is this database? Where are the highlight positions stored? Can the database be rebuilt without destroying the highlights?
