Confronting Life [1905] Translated by Frances Kovitch First published in Cosmopolitan, Vol. 38, Cosmopolitan Publishing Company, New York, April 1905, p. 717. This is one of three sketches by Gorky, whose publication was prohibited in Russia. It is very short. Two people confront Life and demand to know why they are not happy. This work is assumed to be in the Life+70 public domain OR the copyright holder has given specific permission for distribution.
