Sony PRS-T3 not detected after Windows 10
Hi,
i upgraded my PC from Windows 7 to Windows 10. Calibre now does not detect my reader Sony PRS-T3 anymore. I can access the removable drives from explorer and copy books manuall. Device manager shows the PRS-T3 correctly. Here is a debug log. Any help is highly appreciated. profigriller calibre 2.33 [64bit] isfrozen: True is64bit: True Windows-8-6.2.9200 Windows ('64bit', 'WindowsPE') ('Windows', '8', '6.2.9200') Python 2.7.9 Windows: ('8', '6.2.9200', '', 'Multiprocessor Free') Successfully initialized third party plugins: Clean Metadata && Find Duplicates && SmartEject USB devices on system: [u'usb\\vid_046d&pid_c069&rev_5601', u'usb\\vid_8087&pid_0024&rev_0000', u'usb\\root_hub30&vid1b21&pid1042&rev0000', u'usb\\vid_048d&pid_1345&rev_0100', u'usb\\vid_067b&pid_2303&rev_0001', u'usb\\root_hub20&vid8086&pid1c26&rev0005', u'usb\\vid_054c&pid_05c2&rev_0226', u'usb\\root_hub20&vid8086&pid1c2d&rev0005', u'usb\\vid_04f9&pid_2007&rev_0100', u'usb\\vid_0b05&pid_179c&rev_0001', u'usb\\vid_046a&pid_0001&rev_0026', u'usb\\vid_2001&pid_f103&rev_0100', u'usb\\vid_05e3&pid_0608&rev_0702', u'usb\\vid_8087&pid_0024&rev_0000', u'usb\\vid_152e&pid_2507&rev_0000', u'usb\\root_hub30&vid1b21&pid1042&rev0000'] Traceback (most recent call last): File "site-packages\calibre\devices\scanner.py", line 85, in __call__ DriveError: No removable drives found Drives detected: No disabled plugins Looking for devices of type: MTP_DEVICE The Windows WPD service says there are no portable devices connected Looking for devices of type: SMART_DEVICE_APP All IP addresses {'{6E0943E3-6C64-42B9-8C59-CE0086236828}': [{'netmask': '255.255.255.0', 'broadcast': '192.168.123.255', 'addr': '192.168.123.37'}], '{5DCF6534-BAB0-4BB9-A15E-BBD23D48CD19}': [{'addr': '169.254.66.121'}], '{F186DF60-E009-41D0-AD3F-57409150CA5A}': [{'netmask': '255.255.0.0', 'broadcast': '169.254.255.255', 'addr': '169.254.45.111'}], '{AEC1DA40-36C4-11E5-9BC2-806E6F6E6963}': [{'netmask': '255.0.0.0', 'broadcast': '127.255.255.255', 'addr': '127.0.0.1'}], '{3DB981A2-D3AF-446F-B86E-5EC52DBC4A4C}': [{'netmask': '255.255.0.0', 'broadcast': '169.254.255.255', 'addr': '169.254.38.121'}]} No device is connected Looking for devices... u'usb\\vid_054c&pid_05c2&rev_0226' Devices possibly connected: None |

I had all kinds of trouble losing removable devices (SD cards)
Disconnect the device and Cold Boot W10 (PC shutdown, then power on) |

I tried that but no success.
As I wrote the device is detected in Device Manager and the removable drives are accessible. So I wonder what else Calibre is looking for. profigriller |

Look at the lines in the debug output
DriveError: No removable drives found The Windows WPD service says there are no portable devices connected which indicate that windows is not seeing your device, or atleast, it is telling calibre that it not seeing the device. Make sure the device is showing up as multiple drives in windows explorer -- remeber that this device has a readonly partition that is useless -- the actual read/write partition has to be detected. Try a different usb cable/port, or you can use the connect to folder function in calibre to connect to a folder on the device. |

Was this the first time the device was attached to W10?
I just tried my TAB2 (I normally us CC): Calibre asked if I wanted to Manage it BEFORE W10 had finished (took over a minute) installing the drivers Once the drivers were installed, Calibre then Crashed Calibre has now been restarted, and is scanning the device. You might check Preferences: Ignored devices |

I did some more tests
- reader is not listed under ignored devices - reader shows up in device manager - removable drives show up in explorer BUT I have the same problem with my Garmin Orgeon and Basecamp which does no longer detect my Garmin device. I used the Win10 rollback, tried the upgrade again and got the same behaviour again. So the problem is not with Calibre but with my PC setup. Seems I need to prepare a clean Win10 install long term :-( Thanl you for your help, profigriller |

You might wait (a bit) it out.
It is almost like there are stealth fixes happening on W10 (no listing in the Update logs) One day, I had SD card Safely Remove issues (the card reader was being ejected, not the card) and later in the day. it worked just like W7 did |

After reverting to Win7 I did another update to win10 today.
Again the reader is not detected by calibre. I did some reading and came across a WPDInfo tool which can list windows portable devices. The reader is listed in wpdinfo and one can access its properties. I have added some screenshots. Is this helpful to analyze the problem? Best regards, profigriller |

No Device after updating to Windows 10 (x64)
After updating to Win 10, calibre is no more seeing my Soy PRS-T3 and PRS-T1.
After minutes the device is showing up in the windows explorer (thank to the help of USBDLM), but still no device in calibre. Same issue with my Garmin devices and Garmin Basecamp software. Same also with the original software from Sony : Reader PC. There are no ignored devices and Microsoft is just saying, calibre and basecamp are noted as not compatible !! So, Where is help and who can do something ???? |

The only fix I know for this is to do a clean windows 10 install. Or stay with windows 7/8. Or use the connect to folder function in calibre as a workaround.

For Windows 10 I found no way to connect the PRS-T1 to Calibre. With a virtual PC with VirtualBox (with Extension Pack) and Windows 7 Calibre is working fine. To build up the link it needs some seconds. Good luck.
