David Drake. See Hammer's Slammers and a bajillion other books of his.
Also David Weber's Honor Harrington series (starts at On Basilisk Station). I also liked his "March to" series with John Ringo. |

This is going to sound really obvious but....
Star Wars. Particulary the Thrawn Trilogy by Timothy Zahn. |

Timothy Zahn's Blackcollar series is very, very good. His Cobra trilogy is also quite good.

David Weber
Honor Harrington series Dahak series Apocalypse Troll Starfire series Path of the Fury Empire of Man (with John Ringo) Jack Campbell The Lost Fleet John Ringo/Travis S Taylor Looking Glass Travis S Taylor One Day on Mars series David Drake Hammer's Slammers series RCN (O'Leary) series Ian Douglas Heritage trilogy Legacy Trilogy Inheritance Trilogy Star Carrier Battletech series Elizabeth Moon Vatta's War The above list will give a good start. Also, pop over to Baen and have a look there as well. Half of the books I listed above are available from Baen. I am sure others will add more. Last edited by sabredog; 05-03-2010 at 09:37 PM. *raises hand* You could always read my Earthfleet series. It'd fit the bill for what you're after.

Battlestar Galactica is a TV show, but they've made novels from it. I would suggest watching it, though. I loved it.

Almost all the Honor Harrington books can be downloaded free and legally here (as well as many, many other fine books).
You might also want to try: Bill Baldwin's Helmsman series David Feintuch's Midshipman/Seafort series Harry Turtledove's World War alternative history series Peter Hamilton's Night's Dawn trilogy (not strict Mil/SF but still a grand read) |

Is Bill Baldwin's Helmsman series available on "official" ebook format?
I have rather (actually very bad...unreadable) txt format darknet acquired copies that I would love to replace with readable EPUB files that are properly formatted and reasonably priced. |
