Calibre Plugin
Hi
Are there any experts out there that know how to do Calibre Plugins? We are the owner of a specific site that would like to get a Calibre plugin done. The plugin needs to parse a more or less complex HTML-File (with tables) and convert that HTML File into an Ebook. The Plugin would then go into Calibre from where one could schedule a task to download the file on a regular basis. Please let us know if you are interested. Best Zeno |

calibre already converts HTML? So why do you need a specific plugin?

This is an example of what would have to be converted:
http://ch.oddb.org/de/gcc/resolve/po...info%2C1199242. See the table? Some tables can be even more complicated. What we need is a clean ebook. |

I would have thought that ideally the answer would be to enhance the standard Calibre HTML conversion to handle your HTML (assuming it does not already). That way it becomes generic capability that everyone can exploit. I do not see off-hand how a specialist plugin would do any better?

That link opens to a (search page I think) in german. Don't see what table you mean.

http://ch.oddb.org/de/gcc/resolve/po...nfo%2C22482926. Is also has an image. And if you scroll down to the chapter "Eigenschaften / Wirkungen" then you will see the table: http://ch.oddb.org/de/gcc/resolve/ch...nfo%2C22482926. |

Have you actually tried converting the html, both image and table should be converting fine to EPUB and reasonably to MOBI.

You can search any drug in http://ch.oddb.org and click on the FI-Link on the left of the search result. Then you will see the information that needs to go well-formated into calibre.

Yes I tried that. Also I would like to grab the RSS feed from here http://ch.oddb.org on the left hand side.
I would like to update the daily FIs as I update my economist with a cronjob in calibre. The FIs need to go automated into Calibre as the Economist or the Wall Street Journal. |

Ok good to know. Can you point me to the code where that is done. That goes with a Plugin, correct? Could you look at one of those HTML links? The information behind does links is prescription-drug information for Switzerland. I want to get that information on to the Kindle of the Medical Doctors in Switzerland. I believe that an E-Book reader is very helpful for a medical doctor.

Yeah there is a guide to writing recipes in the user manual. You should be able to hire any halfway competent programmer to do the job for a couple of hundred dollars. I would suggest targeting a reader other than the Kindle though, since MOBI has only limited support for tables.

Good to know! Thank you for your Feedback. Which device would you suggest? Do you have experience with the Nook or the Sony E-Reader? Sony is going EPUB on 11.12.2009 that I have noticed.

Both Sony and nook support the ePub format. In fact, all of the modern hardware readers do (except for the Kindle family). Therefore, ePub should be your format of choice! ePub has no problem with tables, anyway, so the better for that!

Ok, good to know. Which site offers the best EPUB Documentation and also: Does the EPUB for Sony or Nook also work flawlessly on the Stanza Reader of the iPhone? I know that that is EPUB as well.
Are there any statistics out there that give information about which reader has which marketshare in Germany and Switzerland? Thank you for your Feedback. |
