Hello, paulnjean! Nothing wrong with backlighting ... it's the content that counts, not how you read it.

pauljean - I'm a new member also and can go one generation older than you, the Rocket reader . I still use and enjoy this piece of aging technology on a regular basis and it's still in great condition. I love backlit displays and would love to have had one of your models but could never get one from the US .
Anyhow, I know I'm only a newbee - but welcome to the forum . Tommy Last edited by TommyCooper; 03-13-2008 at 03:35 PM. Reason: addition |

Hello
Hello all,
Just a quick post - I am a long time e-book person, starting with the venerable Rocket eBook. I have just upgraded to the Cybook Gen3 (primarily to access a few more books), so decided to see what the community is about. Hope to post some more later. |

On the 2nd unit, I dropped it onto my face one night while I was reading (!!!!) and the touchscreen became dicey. I then decided to take apart the 3rd unit that had acquired the screen of death (I did EVERYTHING I read to fix this, but everytime I unplugged the unit from the AC, the unit would go back to the screen of death). Anyway, I took apart the 3rd unit, but never had the guts to THEN take apart the 2nd unit in order to replace the screen. I also have a card reader and 3 64-meg cards. I'm thinking about selling everything except the 3 64-meg cards and the card reader, and just go ahead and buy the Ebookwise 1150. I can't explain exactly WHY I want the Ebookwise 1150, but perhaps it's because I have such great memories of the 1100s. I also own the Sony PRS-505. I've been very happy with the 3 1100s, and I think they would probably cause someone to drool if they needed parts, etc., and one working unit. Don By the way, welcome to MobileRead. You'll find a lot of information here, a ton of downloads in various formats, and you may even make some new friends. |

Want to find good home for 3 eBook 1100s
I started with the Rocket eBook 1100 several years ago, and loved it. I got a second one for my wife, and then after they stopped supporting it, still used it, mostly for Gutenberg books.
A friend who had ordered a lot of books (as I did) when Gemstar announced they were discontinuing support, gave me his along with about 80 books, all of which I read. When Sony finally came out with the Reader, I immediately got that, and then about six months ago got the Kindle. My wife now "owns" the Reader and I the Kindle. As can read the classics on both of those, really have no use for the three 1100s anymore. They all are in excellent condition, all with cases, chargers and USB cables. I hate to have them just sitting around, and too good to use as door stops, so wonder if anybody could use these. I'd like to get a few bucks for all three, but willing to dicker on a cost if anybody is interested. Obviously, not many people on this forum, and unlikely anybody who does not have one would show up, so I'm wondering if there are any other forums where offering these would be appropriate. I don't want to mess with eBay, and craigslist would probably not find anybody who even knew what they were. I assume the problem for a new owner would be how to get even the Gutenberg books into it and whether the software in the CD I have would work now. I had to download Gutenberg books as .txt, pull it into the old Rocket Librarian, save it as a .rd book, close that and open the eBook Librarian, import it, and then send to the device. Is there an easier way for a new user to get these books into the old 1100s? Any suggestions as to how I could find somebody who would like one or all of these great devices? As I said, I'd like to get a few dollars for them, but if anybody really wanted one, I would probably send them for the shipping costs. |

New guy here. LOVED my RCA 1100 so much that I searched eBay and got a second just in case my first gave out. I found this Forum searching for the software to convert web pages to rb format. I doubt that it will work on Vista but we'll see. ANY IDEAS OUT THERE? thanks.
