Not much jumps out at me. Sampling some of the few that do. Posting what I think others may like or at least look more closely into.

Street Creds by Zach Fortier. Crime drama (true crime) by a retired police officer. Self pubbed. Many 5-stars but sample was unimpressive.
http://www.amazon.com/StreetCreds-eb...9262994&sr=1-1

Quote:
Street Creds is a look inside the world of street gangs and the cops that work them. I worked the street for many years before I entered the Gang Task Force, joining it with the idea that I could rise to the level of violence of any banger I encountered - a really stupid idea. I wanted to “earn back” the respect of the citizens for the police; I grew up in this city, and I worked its streets the best way I knew how, feeling that I had a firsthand understanding of what the citizens were experiencing. The increasing frustration at gang crimes, drive bys, robberies, never feeling safe with your kids in your own neighborhood - I wanted to do what I could to make that fear go away.
Once I was inside the task force, though, the reality was a rude awakening for me. The task force was poorly managed and staffed by detectives mostly out for themselves, and the internal politics made success incredibly difficult and almost impossible - almost, but not quite.

River Ghosts by B.R. Robb. Originally published by Gale/Five Star in 2008, this police mystery has good reviews including Kirkus and PW. Sample very solid.
http://www.amazon.com/River-Ghosts-e...9264353&sr=1-2

Quote:
Richard Hill's innocent belief that love between his black father and white mother created him, that he is proof of a good and purposeful God, ends at age eight when a neo-Nazi youth rapes his mother and murders her and his father. Richard survives, a witness to violence and, he believes, his own cowardice. On the strength of Richard's testimony, a white jury convicts Henry Clayton, a teen bearing swastika tattoos, and sentences him to death. His future in ruins, Richard soon perceives that the mix of his parents satisfies neither side.

Sixteen years after the murders, Richard receives a letter from the prosecutor's office. DNA evidence has exonerated Henry Clayton. Richard is the man who remains imprisoned, alone within his discredited nightmare. Henry Clayton soon arrives, dressed in the clothes of a preacher, claiming rebirth, extending his hand not only to return Richard to faith, but to use this faith to find the real killer. Even as Richard begins to take a step in a new direction, his youth and voices from his past reach out to oppose Clayton.

But how can a traumatized memory from so long ago defeat a perfect science? Its frightening insight into the best and worst of men and their institutions, thoughtful intrigue, and superb attack upon preconceptions make River Ghosts a mystery devoid of coincidences or tidy endings, that will grip readers from the stunning opening to its powerful last page.

Good Cop, Dead Cop by Jennifer Petkus. Police drama mystery by a journalist. Published by Mallard Mysteries ?? Several good reviews. Sample first.
http://www.amazon.com/Good-Dead-Afte...9265320&sr=1-1

Quote:
Alex Munroe hated being dead, but he hated not being a cop even more. Luckily the discovery of the afterlife means death isn't quite the disability it once was and new technology has allowed him to partner with rookie cop Linda Yamaguchi. Of course technology still can't give him a physical body or the ability to interact with the billions of other dead people, except through the Internet. But technology has allowed Alex to expand his mind and access the world of information in ways he would have never thought possible when alive, which is a useful skill when the dead start to go missing, and it's up to Alex and Linda to solve the mystery of their disappearance.

The Ninth Orphan by James Morcan and Lance Morcan. Father and son team published two books by a small Australian Press. Both free today.

Quote:
How do you catch a man who is never the same man twice?

That is the question posed in The Ninth Orphan, a new release international thriller novel...

An orphan grows up to become an assassin for a highly secretive organization. When he tries to break free and live a normal life, he is hunted by his mentor and father figure, and by a female orphan he spent his childhood with. On the run, the mysterious man's life becomes entwined with his beautiful French-African hostage and a shocking past riddled with the darkest of conspiracies is revealed.

Fast-paced, totally fresh and original, filled with deep and complex characters, The Ninth Orphan is a controversial, high-octane thriller with an edge. Merging fact with fiction, it illuminates shadow organizations rumored to exist in the real world.

Tackling genetic selection, mind control, secret societies and a chase around the globe, The Ninth Orphan also has a poignant, romantic sub-plot. The story contains the kind of intimate character portraits usually associated with psychological novels.

Fiji: A Novel

http://www.amazon.com/Fiji-A-Novel-e...9266467&sr=1-1

Quote:
As the pharaohs of ancient Egypt build their mighty pyramids, and Chinese civilization evolves under the Shang Dynasty, adventurous seafarers from South East Asia begin to settle the far-flung islands of the South Pacific. The exotic archipelago of Fiji is one of the last island groups to be discovered and will remain hidden from the outside world for many centuries to come.

By the mid-1800's, Fiji has become a melting pot of cannibals, warring native tribes, sailors, traders, prostitutes, escaped convicts and all manner of foreign undesirables. It's in this hostile environment an innocent young Englishwoman and a worldly American adventurer find themselves.

Susannah Drake, a missionary, questions her calling to spread God’s Word as she’s torn between her spiritual and sexual selves. As her forbidden desires intensify, she turns to the scriptures and prayer to quash the sinful thoughts – without success.

Nathan Johnson arrives to trade muskets to the Fijians and immediately finds himself at odds with Susannah. She despises him for introducing the white man’s weapons to the very people she is trying to convert and he pities her for her naivety. Despite their differences, there’s an undeniable chemistry between them.

When their lives are suddenly endangered by marauding cannibals, Susannah and Nathan are forced to rely on each other for their very survival.

Posting this Author's page as he has several free titles today. Serialized zombie thing. Didn't look into it as it's not my interest.

A repeat. You may already have the UK edition which is not free.

Sugar & Spice: American edition of the controversial crime thriller by Saffina Desforges
http://www.amazon.com/Sugar-Spice-Am...9269406&sr=1-1

Quote:
Inspired by a news story of a man who begged a Judge to give him a longer sentence, because he knew he would harm another child if released without treatment, Sugar & Spice is meticulously researched, asking the questions society prefers not to have answered.
At once disquieting and challenging, Sugar & Spice is car-crash reading.
~
It's every parent's worst nightmare: A child fails to return home. As hours turn to days, all they can do is hope. Some children never come back...
Driven by the need to know why, a mother confronts the man accused of her daughter's murder, He presents a compelling defence, convincing Claire not only that he is innocent of harming her daughter, but that his previous convictions were not what they seemed.
Teaming up with a second-year psychology student and a fourteen year-old truant schoolboy, Sugar & Spice is the story of a mother's fight to bring one man's reign of terror to an end.
~
Be warned: In Sugar & Spice not all things are nice...

Trade-off by Tom Kasey aka Peter Stuart Smith, I believe. Crime thriller by Endeavour Press.
http://www.amazon.com/Trade-off-eboo...9270088&sr=1-1

Quote:
Meet Steven Hunter. A British policeman, he has been seconded to the FBI. When a corpse is found in Montana with a human femur driven through the top of its skull, it is beyond the capabilities of the local police. Hunter is assigned to the case. But someone doesn’t want him to solve it.

Hunter faces the deadliest test of his career – how to catch a killer while staying one step ahead of the most powerful forces on earth, and staying alive himself.

In this enthralling thriller, part conspiracy, part manhunt, and part sci-fi, Tom Kasey has woven a gripping story that takes the reader right into the innermost workings of government – and reveals the dark secrets that lurk within.
