Pope, Alexander: Eloisa To Abelard, v1, 1 February 2010.
Alexander Pope [1688-1744]
Eloisa To Abelard [1717] A poem in which Pope imagines Heloise’s feelings about Abelard, in the form of a letter from her convent. One line from the poem became a film title: “How happy is the blameless Vestal’s lot! The world forgetting, by the world forgot: Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind! Each prayer accepted, and each wish resign’d” This work is assumed to be in the Life+70 public domain OR the copyright holder has given specific permission for distribution.
