Pocketbook InkPad Lite (9.7")

Pocketbook has announced another e-reader to be released this October.

The InkPad Lite (9,7") is a slightly downscaled version of their InkPad X (10,3"). It comes at a lower price ($299) and with a new design.

From the press release:

Quote:
Bigger screen – exceptional e-reading experience

PocketBook InkPad Lite is equipped with a large 9.7-inch screen, which is ideal for any content: from ordinary fiction to professional literature and textbooks. A large diagonal allows more text on a screen, and is more convenient for readers with vision problems to adjust the font size to suit their needs. Do not forget about the E Ink Carta™ technology, which makes the e-reader’s screen as close as possible to a standard printed book, and therefore completely safe for the eyes.

More possibilities with SMARTlight

Unlike traditional frontlight, SMARTlight technology allows users to adjust not only the brightness of the screen but also the color temperature. So, users can read with maximum comfort in any light, and choose warm or cool frontlight tones depending on their mood and preferences. The automatic mode will change the settings according to the time of the day. In addition, readers can create their own templates with brightness settings, quickly adjusting the screen to their needs at the right time.

Brand-new design, side control buttons and compactness

PocketBook InkPad Lite has a new restrained and pragmatic design, which will surely appeal to lovers of classics. But the main innovation of the model is the control buttons which have moved from the bottom part of the device to the right-side panel. For many users, the e-reader will become even more ergonomic and convenient, thanks to the ability to turn pages using the side buttons. And thanks to G-sensor, which detects device screen orientation, InkPad Lite is equally well suited for both right-handed and left-handed readers. More great news for users is the size of the InkPad Lite. The dimensions of the e-reader are 236.2 × 173 × 7.9 mm, which makes it one of the most compact devices in such screen-size category.

Support for a vast number of formats without conversion

One of the many advantages of each PocketBook e-reader is the support for a large number of formats. PocketBook InkPad Lite will also delight users with extraordinary freedom of choice: the device supports 19 book and 4 graphic formats. It means that the e-reader can open books, documents and images in all the most popular formats, and users do not need to waste time converting files.

Wi-Fi and native Cloud services

Thanks to the PocketBook Cloud and PocketBook Reader app users can synchronize books (and entire libraries) between different devices. In addition, the Dropbox and Send-to-PocketBook services together with built-in Wi-Fi, allow transferring books to the e-reader in just a few clicks.

Dual-core processor and powerful battery

PocketBook InkPad Lite is equipped with a powerful dual-core processor, which provides a high speed of loading books, applications, and smooth page-turning. And thanks to the 2200 mAh battery, the e-reader can work on a single charge for up to one month.

A 9.7" screen?
But what is the dpi and the weight?

The press release has a lot of irrelevant things but those are two vital specs.

How does annotation and export of them work?

Is it USB mass Storage, or horrible MTP, or need a host program for some or all the features?

The page of PR has about a paragraph of useful information. Also Amazon has 90% of English ebook market. You WILL need a Kindle or suitable App and conversion to read almost all Amazon ebooks unless it runs the Amazon Android Kindle App.

Bugger screen? BS! It's 9.7" which is smaller then 10.3". That is really stupid to say it has a bigger screen.

Goodereader claims it's 1200x825 with 212 ppi which is obviously wrong somewhere. I'd imagine it just runs the same version of Linux as all the other Pocketbooks with same features.

Except for self-published dreck on Amazon I find it's extremely rare for a book to not be on sale at Kobo or Google Play Books.

My ten year old PB 902 is 9.7" and 1200x825 resolution, making it 150 dpi. I would expect a higher resolution on a newer device. 212 dpi would make the resolution about 1600x1200, which sounds reasonable for a new display. Maybe the review got the resolution wrong.

Edit: liseuses.net is selling this device, and they report the resolution to be 1200x825, as well. So, it looks like the 212 dpi claim is the incorrect part.

Eink's site shows a VB3300-JGA 1200x825 150DPI glass substrate display. This appears to be the same one used in the BOOX N96ml.

Then even the Eink site is inconsistent.

1800x825 @ 150DPI is 13.2" diagonal.

9.7" 1800x825 is 204DPI.

1800x825 is 2.18 : 1, which seems narrow even for android.

Only rkomar's numbers are consistent.

Sorry I introduced a typo in my reply. The correct resolution is 1200x825 @150 DPI which works out to a 9.7" diagonal.

According to the Russian site, where they call this the "970," the screen is 1200×825 (so 150 ppi). It comes with 512 MG RAM and 8 GBs storage. It does have a microsSD slot (up to 32 GB). It has warm light settings and weighs 369 grams (about 13 ounces). It's supposed to have a metal frame to protect the glass screen. The dimensions are 236×173×7,9 мм. So this is definitely on the "light side" on specs. It has a G-Sensor so you can use the buttons with both your right or left hand when you flip it over.

I hope this is not the future of PocketBook design. I like my HD3s design.

https://pocketbook.ru/shop/ustroystv...ook-970-seryy/

EDIT: Meant to mention (important to some folks) it does have a USB-C port.

I don't know why they still write "up to 32gb" with regards to sd-cards when I can use a 64 or 128gb card just fine (as long as I format it as ext2 or FAT32, NOT exfat).

This is a downscaled little brother to the Inkpad X. So the screen size comparison should be to the Inkpad X and not other Pocketbooks. Besides, the description says nothing about other Pocketbooks with smaller screens.

Because SDXC cards (those bigger than 32GB) come formatted as exFAT as part of the spec. Since they don't support exFAT, they don't technically support SDXC and thus "only" support cards up 32GB.
