Lost my screensavers! And maybe more?
I dug up an old kindle I hadn't used in years that I'd Jailbroken in 2016. I only remember putting screensavers on it. I connected it to wifi and it updated to 5.12.2.2 without my consent
I noticed my cool screensavers are all gone! Does this mean I lost my jailbreak? I plugged in the kindle and I have all my custom screensavers in a folder. I want to get them set back up again. Do I need to start from scratch? I put the hotfix in the root directory and tried to update but it didn't work. Is it safe to factory reset? I have all my books in calibre. I also just got a kindle voyage for $5 at yard sale. That one is on 5.7.4, any advice for what to be aware of before starting to mess with that one? |

Yes I have all the screensavers still they’re on my kindle when I plug it in. They just don’t show anymore the default ones restored after updating. I still do t have ads, does this mean I’m still jailbroken?

No!
Restart = reboot. This will help you restore Jailbreak. Then REINSTALL screensaver package. The fact that you see them in the storage doesn’t mean you will see them on Kindle (need to reinstall the working package first) Do NOT factory reset after an update. You will loose JB forever. |

1. A restart (reboot) re-enables the jailbreak, but another restart is sometimes needed. But all packages have to be reinstalled. 2. A reset also disables a jailbreak and it also removes all user configuration and documents and other user files. A firmware update followed by a reset, or vice versa, will permanently remove a jailbreak if the firmware version is not jailbreakable. There is no factory reset. If the above does not completely answer your question, please write tell us specifically which part is not clear to you. |

If you have ads that is also a problem, as the screensaver add-on will NOT operate if you have "special offers" enabled on your Kindle. If that is the case you will need to contact Amazon about disabling the "special offers", which they might charge you to do but in some cases will not. Dave |
