Eric Flint 1812 - The Rivers of War free in Baen Library

Hi,

Graciously Mr. Eric Flint made his Del Rey (not Baen!) book, 1812-The Rivers of War available in the Baen free library.
He also posted some comments to the extent that many sf editors (though not top brass) are more and more convinced that the drm-free Baen way is the way to go with e-books. Let's hope!!

Great find. Seems that this has been going on since 2000.

The Baen Free Library has been around for a long time and moreover you can find copies of the Baen CD's (currently 9, with #10 to come soon in Hell Hath No Fury, 3/07) freely and legally on the Net and they have many more books than in the free library.

What is significant is that 1812 is a Del Rey book, and while Baen sold or had in the library some Tor e-books, this is a big step forward.

Now if the upstairs bosses at the parent companies of Tor, Del Rey and others would agree to do drm free e-books, and for example in the case of Tor restart the e-book deal with Baen/Webscriptions that died so ignomiously last spring after only several weeks, that would be a really big step forward for drm-free ebooks.

Good pick up. But, before this was added, the left and right columns aligned at the bottom. After it was added, they are still in alignment. So, was something deleted from the left column, or was something also added to the right column?

I'm sure it has been mentioned before, but I can't find the thread. For the free CD's see the Annotated Listing of Free BAEN eBooks.

They actually added two new books, and just forgot to highlight the second one. It's... um... [blanking on the title at the moment] by Mercedes Lackey.
